Can u help ? defrosted freezer...

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this .... anyway woken up this morning and the top part of my freezer has defrosted and I was wondering how long I have to eat 36 fishfingers, 2 pizza's, 12 sausages, 6 burgers, 6 pittas, pack of bacon, 6 cod in crumb, & a duck breast !. We are a family of three and I suspect it's only 12 hours, so if anyone can tell me if it is only 12 hours - or have any good ideas on what I can do with it all -it would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you put everything in the fridge, which I'm sure you have, then you will have slightly longer. However, your best bet is to cook everything and then you can re-freeze items. However, I'm not sure how cooked and refrozen fishfingers would taste :D At the end of the day, if your only option is to bin it, then you have nothing to lose.

Either that, or have an impromptu party and put it all out on the table and tell everyone to eat up. :)

As far as I know, you can keep it for the time it would have lasted in the fridge(if you had just bought it and put it in there rather than the freezer) but if you cook some of it,that should last about 3 days covered in the fridge. We had a similar problem when England had the hurricanes years ago and we had no electricity for a week.We didnt have the fridge either then but luckily it was winter still.

Does your household insurance cover it. It could be worth a quick phone call.

Household insurance usually does cover freezer mishaps, but I doubt that the amount of food that Lulubells has lost would even cover the excess. So it possibly wouldn't be worth it.

If it were me, I'd go with what Ticklemouse has said and cook and re-freeze the sausages, burgers, bacon and duck breast and use the rest up as soon as you can.

Is your freezer working again now then? Why did it defrost - door not closed properly?

Oh good. I'd hate to think it might break down on you gain. And it's not a mistake you are likely to repeat in a hurry :)

This reminds me of when we had a power cut a week before Xmas a couple of years back. I was panicking not knowing what to do with all the food. I phoned around some freinds to store some for me, but with it being nearly Xmas, everyone's freezer was full. (Glad the turkey was already at mums, lol)

An hour later we rang them back and invited them round for a HUGE dinner, lol. We cooked by candlelight (luckily, got a gas cooker), lots of sausage rolls, cakes, and other crap you only tend to buy at christmas and it turned out to be a great night. The neighbours came and one even brought his new year fireworks so we could watch something apart from flickering candles.

I claimed off the insurance and received the cheque Xmas Eve, but it was still one of the best impromptu xmas parties ever.

Last year I was praying for another power cut ... what a fantastic night!!!!!!!!!!
