I would like to start a campaign to stop tour opperators ripping off single travelers.i recently did an online quote from Portland for a weeks holiday as the booking proceeded they offered a single room in that hotel. Why then can they adda room supliment when there is a single room available£77. I have contacted them to ask but as yet they have not bothered to reply.

From seeing an article on The One Show:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00lsqjc/The_One_Show_24_07_2009/
I gather that the situation about getting refunds if companies go bust is quite complicated. I'd love it if there could be a section on Martin's "Cheap Package Holiday" page about this.

I gather you are only covered by ABTA/ATOL if you buy a "package" ie more than one of flights, accomodation, tours etc from a company. And if you buy two elements through an agent, and they source those elements from two different companies, you may still not be covered.

Also Dominic on the One Show said that if you pay by credit card, only the person/people named on the cards, or their close relatives, will get a refund. He mentioned section 75 of the Credit Card Act. If friends are travelling together, (my likely situation) he said they are better off booking seperately to ensure they can claim back if something goes wrong. Not sure how you could do this if you're booking a room for two.

All rather complex, and I'm not sure that what I've mentioned already is correct or not. Would be wonderful for me if Martin and his team would come up with a definitive version of this seemingly complex issue on the "Cheap Package Holiday" page.

Hi all, Great site and thanks for all the deals and info :)

Just wondering if anyone can help, (as there seem to be a lot of people with experience on here).
My girlfriend and i want to take the kids away next year for their 1st holiday abroad.
The problem is that there's going to be 8 of us going, 3 adults + 17, 14, 12, 11 and a 7 year old so it's not going to be cheap!
Unfortunately it's gonna have to be during the school holidays so we're looking at ideally the 25th August 2010
We want to go to Ayia Napa in Cyprus and would like to stay in either the Nestor hotel or the Atlantica Sungarden beach hotel (although the Nestor is working out cheaper).
We're not too worried about flight times, but would prefer either bed and breakfast or all inclusive.
We know Ayia Napa really well and there are a lot of nice restaurants so BnB might possibly be the best option.
Can anyone find this under (or around), £3000 or suggest any good sites?
When i 1st looked, (about a week and a half ago), i found it for under £2000 but it has since disappeared??
I believe it was on the OTBeach website.
The other cheapest site i have found is 1 ive never heard of, beachcollection, (.co.uk)
    Has anybody used them?
Also, where on earth do you find the discount codes that most of these sites have boxes for?

    Many thanks :)

i am wanting to book a to china with Travelsphere,i have missed out on the discount window, can i still get any discount anywhere else?
i am new to booking foreign holidays.
    regards sheila
  • I had quotes on lastminute.com for £1037 for holiday for three of us. As it was late I couldn't phone around but when I did a search I came up with another holiday supplier who was £250 cheaper (lowcostholidays) and you can get 4% cashback on them too. I decided this was enough of a bargain as it is for Feb half term in Tenerife.
Last year we got a holiday in summer holidays for 5 people 1 week 5* hotel in Lake Garda for £1600, we booked in May, I think that's when Martin suggests looking as they have already booked flights and rooms so need to shift them.
    Roll on the sunshine!

Use Icelolly.com then do a search in google with the word 'review' followed by the name of the hotel. Many sound horrendous but not all. Have used them several times successfully. Also, a friend of mine phoned them and asked if they had any cancellations and ended up with a fantastic holiday for a small price.

Also join Travelzoo for their weekly deals.

    Hi,
I want it all, I admit it.....and want it cheap...but maybe someone else has just had it all and can recommend.

I want to take my 2 kids, 12 and 10, away during August this year. We had a washout in Cornwall last year, and while not ruling out another UK trip I am thinking somewhere with more likelihood of not actually shivering. I have ruled out Spain as being just too concretey and tacky.

I would like a nice beach, a waterpark for them, plus also somewhere with some historic interest for a trip, but not a pile of rocks that may interest me but not the kids (who were particularly underwhelmed with a "amphitheatre" in turkey that was just a crater). I like self catering, so somewhere near a reasonable supermarket, and of course the accomodation has to be as nice as possible bearing in mind it will only be 2* or 3*.
Am thinking perhaps Corfu, Canaries, and am open to any suggestions of resorts or even apartments.
    many thanks
