    Hiya

can you elaborate on what you mean with Amex? Were you already a customer just to get generic ID check or is there another reason they never done a full search?

Can you confirm the start limit on such a card? and also were you successful with Next/Tesco? Obviously, different people's stories help others decide if it is worth applying :D

    Thanks mate
    Hello n-i-d

Yes I'm already and Amex customer, currently got a charge card and previously had the plat cashback which I closed in October. Limit on new card is £2.4k, a little on the low side but only wanted the freebie vouchers really! Plus I can understand a lowish limit because I've taken on a decent whack of credit in the last six months or so.

Successful with Next, £600 initial limit, I know from what people have posted on here that the limit is likely to go up and down like a yoyo. Got the book a few days ago, still miffed that you get charged for it! Although I got it through a friend referral so will get a £15 credit on my first order ;)

Also successful with Tesco for £7.5k @ 7.8% (with 2 month payment break). Actually applied for this last August, didn't realise it was that long ago!

    Cheers

Mate those First Direct cards look the business in the wallet!!!

I keep opening the wallet from time to time just to look at it!!!

You really need to get one ;-)

Mmm I'm going to apply right now!

In the mean time, I'll just have to print out an image of an Amex card and laminate it. Better than nothing I guess....

I'm debating whether to apply for First Direct. They have a savings account with a decent rate. I maxed my ISA allowance so some of my money is sitting in a 0.10% account with NatWest, which sucks.

Cheers for Northern Bank info Cif, I take it by that article that they use them for all their products?

n-i-d, about 3 years ago I was major sub-prime fodder, taken a bit of determination, several sub-prime cards and being good (staying away from the apply button!) to get back in the credit good books. Got declined for a John Lewis card about the same time I applied for the Tesco loan, dunno why they didn't want me, it's a mystery! In fact I seem to get declined for anything HSBC backed - not sure what I've done to p!ss them off!
