They are a bunch of shysters.
Hi,
I have two settled defaults on my file from 2005 both registered by shop direct financial services. From reading this thread I get the feeling I could appeal that. Would it be possible to get more information as these are the only issues on my credit report.
Also, if I can't get rid of the defaults how much will they affect my credit rating.
Thank you.0 -

This is exactly what I have been doing.
Yes by getting defaults off your credit file, you will raise your so called 'credit rating' by miles.
I have successfully done this with another organisation by following the advice contained here:
http://www.learnmoney.co.uk/credit-cards/remove_default_notice.html
However, Shop Direct do not play ball. They ignore your written requests, fail to respond to any correspondence, return letters with a handwritten note saying they can not provide the information etc.
But you must go through the process. I am 99% confident that they can not support the fact that a Default Notice was issued. Deny you ever received one, so how could you rectify the situation?
Got to be worth doing.

Thank you so much for the link, as far as I recall they were catalogue accounts opened over the phone and I don't recall signing anything. The link says it takes time to complete but with the defaults not due to drop off til 2011 I think that is ok!!
If this works it will be brilliant and potentially put me back in the good credit rating group so thank you! :beer:0 -
Well, I'm gunna bounce this thread back up and see if it can garner any more interest!
See post #1 if you're after some 'who uses who' info.

Alliance and Leicester use Equifax when opening a current account. However, they do not do a full search, i.e. one that shows up on my file as 'Credit Search', it just shows up under other searches.
Virgin/MBNA do not record any searches at Equifax.
This is my current experience having opened a 'Current Account Plus' with A&L, with £900 overdraft, cheque book and multi function debit card. Virgin card opened this month also for 15 month 0% balance transfer - given £3.5K limit.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

Express Gifts (Studio Cards) use Experian to search, not sure who they report to but I know they definately report to Experian.
Nationwide use Experian to search as well as report to them. Not sure if they report to EQ or CC.
Candid Collection (Simply Be catalogues) report to Experian. Think they search on EQ.Mortgage Free as of 20.9.17Declutter challenge 2023, 2024 🏅 🏅⭐️⭐️

Hi clio
MBNA definitely search Experian, I recently applied for (and got) a Virgin card.
As IMPNT said, they don't search Equifax and TBH I don't think they'd bother with Call Credit (don't know this for sure though) As far as I know not many companies do use Call Credit for credit card applications.
Cheers

Hi, now most companies report to all cra's, all my account which include,
cap 1
mbna
barclaycard
n/wide
vanquis
citi financial
hsbc
all report to both Equifax and Experian
also applied for a new cap 1 card and was searched at both
all nationwide o/draft increase were only searched at Experian
It is known that the goal is that all 3 credit ref agencies will report the same info and more and creditors are more likely to search all cra's
by the way you cant rely on what people say and one person may well have only been searched at experian but another might be searched for the same credit card at experian, there seems to be no rules especially with mbna who do what they wantDmp Mutual Support thread member No 820
