Those moments at the post office that make you go arrrrrghh!!

Now now, these people fought a war so we could have the freedom to be stuck behind them in the queue!
Ooooooh i love this line!!!! In recent history whilst doing my job a chap in his early 60's said to me "listen young man I fought the Germans for people like you" to which i rebuffed surely you would have only been a baby during the war to which he swore at me and walked off, bless the old codger.
Anyway on the subject of post offices I use to use a local post office for all of my ebaying until they had a pop at me for taking up so much of their time, i think i had spent 5 mins or so at the counter weighing and paying for a few packages. The irony is these little post offices are the ones that are being threatened with closure and its hardly suprising as they seem determined to naff off those people who are their real bread and butter, i think they are under the illusion that the PO is their own little social club and a whipper snapper like me, despite being in my 30's, is interfering with their gossiping time.
all the best

Biggest PO niggle for me is some dizzy woman going up to the counter to post something or buy road tax etc. Then when they ask for documents or money it comes as a big surprise and they only THEN start rooting through their handbags for the required items. OOOHHHH winds me up!0

TBH what winds me up more is I usually end up behind a woman with half a dozen uncontrollable kids getting her benefits. She will produce a few different books, then when she is done with that will furk around in her bag for half a dozen different cards. Then its £5 gas on this one, £5 electricity on this one etc etc
While all this is going on the kids are running riot and Im stood there like a lemon for 20 minutes.
Sods law then opens a new window just as she has finished.....0 -
Must be a long time since you have been in a Post Office, the DSS only pay benefits directly into bank accounts, only in rare circumstances do they issue a giro and that is usually a one off.0

Last one I was behind was about 6 weeks ago, she had slips of paper and books and was in there for half an hour

As I work in a PO I feel that I should add to this ...... Green giros are still quite common although not as many as we used to see. Many customers get theirs weekly. Some made a stand against having it paid into ANY account irrespective of wether they have a bank account or not.
there is also the Post Office Card account which is a holding account for Pensions and Allowances, you money goes in there and you can get it out, all at once or in bits.
For those who dislike being behind the older generation all I can say is that time marches one and you will be there one day (hopefully).
now if you were to ask me about customers .....I could say a few things!!! But as you know I cant as they are always correct!

Dont forget the weekly scratchcard investment that also has to be budgetted for...!
I have two Post Offices that I use regularly because the service is impeccible, and I am treated like a customer not a hinderance. Neither of them are that local to my house or office, but the service I get makes up for the extra travelling. Both are happy to see me, regardles of how many parcels I have, neither complain when I have £3 to put on the business card, and both have opened windows for me when they are busy - although they say they do this for a lot of their regular customers.
These two appreciate that I am spending money with them, and helping them stay open when times are tight for smaller branches, and because of their helpfulness, I am only too happy to continue going to them.
The main Post Office in Kidsgrove is the nearest to me, but the women who work there are the most miserable bunch of trouts you could ever have the misfortune to meet - they begrudge having to provide 2nd class post (despite offering a second class service - in every sense) and they are the same with the large letter issue.
"If it touches the sides you have to pay the extra for a packet" I was once told.
I replied with "Do you say that to all the men?" and never returned... :rotfl:<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

That is exactly what my post office told me but unfortunately I still have to use them most days as they are convenient.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Of course! How could I forget the scratchcards.....
I suppose thats what you get when you go to Meir P.O. Now if I go the Meir Heath its a different story, service with a smile and nothing too much trouble

My local post office (recently saved from closure) asked me not to use Paypal's online postage, and instead to buy it from them.
As a result they bend over backwards to help me, I drop my parcels off each day, at the same time paying for the previous days parcels. They're wonderful! I'd be stuck without them.0
