Remoska cookers (merged)

A Remoska consumes a tenth of the quoted electric oven, true it does not have a thermostat neither does it take 15 to 20 minutes to get up to temperature like a conventional one does.
Being a burn hazard has more substance but is it any greater than that presented by a frying pan or saucepan on the hob? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I would certainly not have a Remoska if I had small children around (even though I LOVE it) Mine is now quite old and has never given me any problems but taking the hot lid off and putting it somewhere while you dish up the grub is somewhat hazardous if you don't have miles of empty worktop. I see that on the new one theres a flat edge to the little 'handle' on the top which would be a definite improvement and stop it wobbling about when you put it upside down (iyswim). We have recently been without an oven for a month (old one broken, waiting for whole new kitchen to be installed) and we'd have had a much more difficult time without the Remoska.
I shall be very interested to see what the new one is like.....0 -
My new one made a nice job of the beef stew I made in it yesterday, helped along with a goodly amount of Old Peculiar poured in it.That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Penrhyn, please could you post your beef stew recipe ? I have never done one in the Remoska as I thought it would cook it too fast and toughen it - even with a bit of foil on the top, but if you've done it successfully I'd be very grateful if you would tell me how long you cooked it for etc. Many thanks...0

Lakeland have discontinued the Remoska, Remoska have an improved version out which is more energy efficient.
I'll be giving the R21 a test run over Christmas.
Hi penrhyn ,how are you finding the new Remoska?,is it an improvement on the old style?, I think I'd maybe miss the wee window, but then again, I'm guessing it will bake better without the window.?,
I still use my grande, maybe not so much as I should, but it cooked our turkey crown to perfection on Christmas Day, I just put it in a turkey roasting bag, 1st hour breast side down, 2nd 1 hr n a half right way up..perfect, then on Boxing Day it was used to keep our massive Halogen oven " grill up" warm until the eggs n toast etc were all ready at the same time...planning on cooking a roast chicken in it today.Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.

I have not used it too much as yet, but will be getting to grips with it in the new year.
The thicker aluminium pan and solid lid do seem to give a more even heat in the oven. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Bumping the thread as it's been over 6 months.
I was in Lakeland a couple of weeks ago and noticed the 'new' Remoska, as shown by Penrhyn up page is on sale, but it is very expensive the standard model is £149.99
Anyway, to my point. I've had my standard for about 5 years but I'm not getting much use out of it, except for jacket potoates and salmon fillets in foil. I think I'm just a bit wary of trying anything else in it.
I'll try to read through the thread for some inspiration, but if anyone wants to update with what they've been cooking in it lately, that would be great.0 -
I thought about replacing my Remoska when I got fed up with the non-stick flaking off but, instead, I bought a halogen oven Andrew James http://www.amazon.co.uk/Andrew-James-Premium-Replaceable-WARRANTY/dp/B00BXIHY8E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1408106952&sr=8-3&keywords=andrew+james+digital+halogen+oven, which is much more versatile, and I replaced my ancient slow cooker with this, which I love http://www.amazon.co.uk/Morphy-Richards-Cooker-3-5Litre-163Watts/dp/B00HT8ZJHK/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1408106995&sr=8-7&keywords=morphy+richards+sear+and+stew+slow+cooker+3.5
I had to buy mine through Amazon UK because I live in France, but I think you can buy them cheaper from retailers in the UK.KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

That looks brilliant, Moliere. My only concern is that I think it would be too tall for my worktops as I only have a small area and have cupboards above.
That reminds me, I must dust off my slow cooker. Didn't use it at all last winter0 -
I must admit that since I got myself a halogen oven I haven't taken the Remoska out of its cupboard. This is from someone who used to think the Remoska was amazing! However I was always a bit unsettled with the teflon coating, I do use teflon normally.
I bought the halogen because the last time I used my Remoska it took out the electric lights. I did consider taking it back but i've had it a couple of years and its well used.0
