Remoska cookers (merged)

  • I'm cooking a small joint of pork today with crackling, do I need to wrap it or cover it in foil and then take it off towards the end to cook the crackling or do I just put it in the Remoska without any foil? I've not cooked a joint of meat so far, only a chicken and that was lovely.

Well I cooked the pork in a casserole dish inside my grand and popped a few par boiled potatoes brushed with oil around the dish. Bit disappointed, the crackling didn't crisp (I rubbed it with salt), pork a bit tough and my roast potatoes didn't crisp up either. It was only a small joint and cooked it for over an hour and half, think if I'd cooked it any longer it would have been over cooked.

I'm determined to cook roast potatoes in my remoska even if I have to cook the meat and then the potatoes on their own afterwards, so I'm just boiling up a few more potatoes, I've got some oil heating in the remoska and I'm going to see how they cook on their own. I've cut them a lot smaller this time, will save them for tomorrow unless DH eats them for supper.

(I'm just wondering if its ok to heat the oil in the remoska as the recipes I've read seem to say 'coat the potatoes in oil')? I've just covered the base of the pan.

I'm finding my Remoska very useful for batch cooking. I bought the grande and generally there is just the two of us to cook for. If I'm doing a small amount I put the main part of the meal in a pyrex dix.

Tonight I cooked a triple batch. Six pieces of chicken in tomato and red wine sauce - this makes 3 meals for the two of us (two sets go in the freezer as ready meals when we are short of time).
    • I browned off the pieces of chicken in a separate pan.
    • Chopped a large onion and diced some mushrooms and threw them in the deep pan.
    • Added a couple of cloves of garlic, chopped.
    • Placed the browned pieces of chicken on top.
    • Added a can of chopped tomatoes.
    • Added a glass of home made elderberry wine (this is a lovely deep red but I think any wine would be fine)
    • Then a sprinkle of Italian herbs, a twist of black pepper and salt
    • Stirred it all about a bit and then put the lid on the pan and left it cooking for just over an hour.
Served with broccoli and mashed potatoes. Absolutely delicious :D
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

I did my roastie by putting a bit of olive oil in the bottom of the pan and chucked cut up potoes in. Left them heat for 10 mins then got the pastry brush and just used the oil to coat them with. Also made oven chips the same way. They where lovely and much lower in fat. Had a egg with my chips and was amazed how it cooked the egg.

:D i cant believe my luck. after seeing the remoska mentioned on the os board ive only gone and spotted one for £8 at a car boot this morning!!

i have no idea what to do with it but i now they are raved about so it seemed rude not to :D

i cant get my head round how it works, does the stuff not just cook on the top like a grill?

i am really pleased, it seems to work fine and even has a booklet and seperate hardback recipe book with it :j

What is the difference between a Ramoska and a slow cooker please?

I've just looked at the Lakeland site. I haven't really got £100 to spare to buy one - would you say it was worth it. Do you really save loads on electric? I live in a part of the country with no mains gas so we only have electric.

Any comments would be great. Thanks in advance.

    Woohoo Vixtress -what a bargain :T ...
and no it doesn't just grill the top -It cooks like an oven -only better :j

roasts, pies, cakes, bread scones.... I have done allsorts in mine -I have had it about 6 weeks now and have not put my gas oven on once since :D ..

Mrs porridge -the remoska is nothing like a slow cooker... its much better :p .. I have a standard one and it uses just 450 watts per hour I think :o ...
My mum has one too, her normal oven was/is a fan assisted electric and my brother worked out that her remoska used about 1/4 of the electric  :T

I can honestly say that I haven't had 1 bad result from the remoska yet :j

i think its the grand one but i'm not sure, the pan looks a similar size to the slowcooker one, couldnt swear to it though!
