Hi i am thinking of getting a remoska for christmas, most days i cook for 4 adults possibly 5, what size would you recommend, BSB

Definitely the grand. I think the standard would be too small.

Stupid question perhaps but if I get a grand in anticipation of the future / other people coming round etc, is it still fine to do smaller quantities? we are 2 adults with healthy appetites.

    Evening all

Well r.e.m.e remoska has earnt his keep today :D
    • hubby warmed up his thick chilli n rice soup for his flask early doors -heaven -no banging and tinging of microwaves whilst i was catching my last few zzzzs :p
    • then I did the chicken stock in it
    • a few white cobs for hubby
    • a few granary cobs for me
    • roasted off loads of tomatoes n pepper from the garden for the freezer
    • and finally I made a chicken. leek and salami pasta bake in him :j -no nasty welded on dish to scrub...
With the pasta I boiled the pasta in a pan, but the cooking of the leeks and making all the sauce was done in R.e.m.e, then i stirred in the pasta sprinkled on cheddar and parmesan and left.. nomnomnom :D

he is now bathed and asleep for the night :p

hmmmm what can i find for him to do tomorrow :rotfl: apart from potato and onion layer for dinner? :D

Definitely not a stupid question. There are 2 of us and I have a Grand. Tonight we had sausages, potatoes, parsnips and peppers - tossed in oil and stirred once during cooking. Filled the bottom of the shallow pan in one layer and cooked in about an hour. Was a bit like Jamie Oliver's sausage "under a fiver" bake. Having one layer and the shallow pan means quicker cooking. Veg were "soft roast" not v crispy but all tasted good.

For smaller quantities I use one of the pans/casseroles I would use in an oven - plus a couple of cheapo pans with the handles taken off. EG - bake potatoes round the edge of the Remoska pan and 10 minutes from the end of cooking put a cheapo milk pan with handle removed filled with a tin of baked beans in the centre of the Remoska. Jackets and beans for lunch!

You'll get the best out of a Remoska if you are prepared to experiment and adapt. If you are, then it's a godsend.

To sum up - somewhare in this incredibly long forum there is a post that says something like "I can put something smaller in it to cook less, but I can't make it bigger". I second that view.

    Hi.
First post on this thread, but post on the grocery challenge and have been impressed by Mrs Mac and I have at last just bought a remoska Grande
Arrived home at 7-30 tonight and cooked roast chicken with veg. instead of using arrowroot and cream, halfway through I turned chicken and added half a can of campbells mushroom soup. It was gorgeous, planning what to do tomorrow, think it will be recipe of the month (herb crusted salmon) will let you know. any advice will be gratefully received. recipes etc.

Hello littlun! I have never baked a pie in my Remoska yet but see no reason why it could not be done. You could bake it directly in the pan or put a pie dish inside of the pan - whichever suits you best.:j

There are only 2 of us most of the time and I use it daily. I just use something like silicone bakeware in it or pyrex dishes but I do have some magic liner on the bottom to stop it from getting scratched.

I have just found out something else about my Remoska. The cupboard with my crockery is on an outside wall, and as it has gotten so much colder I just remembered how cold the plates get....... of course no question of heating them in the oven now. Yesterday I thought I'd try putting the plates under my Remoska while it was cooking our dinner (I have a standard, so it can stand on top of the plates) and I was really happy with the result! They don't get really hot of course, but at least it takes the cold off them without having to use any other heat source.
