you would have to check the school policy but I thought a ruling had come out some time ago regarding the compulsary purchase of specialist school uniforms??

have a look at the children in the school as see if they all have the 'proper' uniform?

also, have a look at this thread about this

My DD is starting school and at the parents evening we were told that they had to wear uniform of school embroidered t-shirt (£6.50 each) and sweatshirt (£9 each) eek! My plan was to just put her in pinafore dresses with plain polo shirts. Does anyone know if i could do this or would she get into trouble? Also if the uniform is sweatshirts could she have plain cardigans?

I believe they can't enforce school uniform at all, let alone a logo'd one, so I doubt she would get into trouble.

The other point to think about is whether you want her to look different and that depends on how many other parents conform!

I can't see it is going to make a difference under a pinafore though tbh.

Many on here would say do your own thing. Personally, I'd suggest a compromise - plain polos, pinafore and logo'd sweatshirts, if you don't want to go the whole hog.

Have a walk by the school and see what other children are wearing as that may help make your mind up.

Stop looking with the girls socks and move over to boys. You may, of course, have to 'unpack' them before showing them to her, but I have successfully 'sold' girls socks to my boys in this way. I think they were black, and for some reason there weren't any black boys socks on display!

BTW, I always TRIED to get their uniform from BHS, because quality couldn't be faulted - I think one blazer lasted five years, passed on from DS1 to DS2, and it hadn't fallen apart then, was just a bit shiny. DS3 was bigger than them so he had to have a new one. Initially BHS were also the best for trousers: my boys hated belts and they did them with little bits of elastic at the sides in bigger sizes than anyone else. Then they outgrew them.

I'm so happy I don't have to do this any more! :rotfl:

    1) Book bags are usually available from the school with the logo on. Our school bags are a fiver each.

    2) Check to see what is popular for girls at your school, I bought jumpers for my eldest and she never wore them as they almost all wear cardigans.

    3) Don't fret when they start school, she will love it. So many mums ball their eyes out and it just makes it worse for the child.

Good idea didn't think of that :T will definately take the label off first as its a struggle to get trousers on dd as they are 'boys', I even had to throw away her loved thomas tank engine socks the other weeks as she now refuses to wear them :rotfl:

Ooh just went out yesterday and got all DS uniform.
I only ordered 2x jumpers as I'm pretty sure he'll grow out of these ones quickly, but I can just order more as and when they are needed.
    I bought from Tesco
    3x polo shirts
    2x trousers
But omg the trousers look like clown trousers on him!
They have to be adjustable waist and the next size down are too short!
I'll probably buy another pair next week so i've got 3 of each (tops and trousers)
So all i've got to get now is the PE kits, which is just white t-shirt (which he already has about 6 of), and black shorts.
Like suggested I will buy the plimpsoles at the last minute, the same with shoes.
God it's so exciting! (he's starting school for the first time! can you tell ;) :rotfl:)

If you don't want to buy the school logo shirts, go to the school and see what they do with lost property. Many schools sell it at stupid prices like 50p or even give it away at the end of term (like now).
Then you carefully take of the logo and sew it onto your new items. This is really easy on polo shirts and sweat shirts.
My DD school said that they needed their names on their PE shirts in year 7. We didn't get them embroidered as offered by the school but used a letter stencil and a good permanent pen. You couldn't tell the difference until right up close. It became a bit of a trend and now most parents do the same :T

My youngest is leaving primary school tomorrow and the expense for secondary school is a bit much. Besides his basic school kit, he needs rugby shirts etc...

Tomorrow when he gets home his last primary school logo polo shirt will never get washed; as it will be covered in signatures of all his friends and teachers!
