I hardly ever use salt in my cooking, due to the belief that the foods that I cook have their own "natural" quantity of sodium. And the fact that too much salt is bad for you.
However, I saw a programme the other day where they were telling people off for not seasoning their cooking. Eh?
What am I supposed to be doing? Can anyone help me please?

Have you seen how much salt Gary Rhodes uses for cooking? I think he must have shares in a company making drugs for control of blood pressure.
Since my high blood pressure was diagnosed, I have cut salt out of cooking. I thought I would find it really hard but in fact, the food is much better. The only exception is Yorkshire puddings but otherwise I now add no salt to my food.0 -
Same here, I've heard that too...adds to the flavour ... and in some things it forces water out of what you are cooking but still I don't use any salt at all, I'm quite used to it.

I use organic sea salt for seasoning etc. It's supposed to be very good for you as it contains minute quantities of many essential minerals. "Table" salt on the other hand has been over processed, whitened & had some strange additives eg anti-caking chemicals to keep it smooth flowing.
There is a report in Lancet whereby organic sea salt was shown to reduce blood pressure in those with high bp & raise it in those with low bp.Nice to save.0 -

I was brought up on a salt free diet, I don't add salt to anything, my husband has only just noitced that I don't add salt to any of our meals (and that was beacuse I was teaching how to make a lasagne) & he commented that he never realized before! My new son will be brought up likewise, I really don't think it is necessary, we enjoy the natural flavour of food without it being "enhanced".
I saw a cook on TV yesterday monring add quite a lot of salt to a recipe with the comment that we should be cutting down on salt in processed foods but the goverments recommended 6g per day maximum didn't really apply to cooking with salt! Please, salt is salt! (Isn't it??)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

I don't use salt in my cooking, nor do I add it at the table. However, since I have stopped eating takeaways and pringles etc, I find that I am not getting enough salt in my diet so I am having to add a little now and again to balance it.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

Salt is salt and in my lifetime it's been good for me, bad for me, OK in moderation and then bad for me again...
..which is when I gave up taking any notice any more.
I use a minimal amount of salt in cooking but I do use some because it helps break down proteins and release flavours my son the chef tells me.
I avoid it in some foods because it either promotes or inhibits water in/out stuff and then only rarely think about adding more salt onto the meal.
I let my body decide.
