I do use some salt in cooking to bring out the flavour, and always lots of pepper
I do use a mineral sea/rock salt though (Maldon's preferably) as this is much better for you and, I think, has a lower sodium content which I think is the bit that's meant to be bad for you.
I never add salt to cooked foods though, not even chips on the rare occasion we have them, and I do notice the high salt content in pre-cooked and take-away foods (not that we eat much of those anymore) and usually end up drinking gallons of water to compensate
PS - I've always had a very low BP though, so salt has never really been a health issue for me in that respect, but I just don't like lots of salt in my food and I'd prefer the kids to have a low-salt diet too"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I haven't used it in cooking at home for years, although I don't like fish and chips without it. I have some Lo-salt inn though for when my mum/brother comes round who always ask for salt.Books - the original virtual reality.

I never use it when cooking but we do have it on the table for people to add their own.
My son rarely uses it(he hates strong flavours).I use it on most things but especially rice and pasta dishes.0 -
I use very little salt, although I have to have it on me chips
I add a very small amount to spuds if I'm mashing them and then only at the end. When I make bread, I add 1/8th tsp instead of the 1 1/2 tsp in the recipe. In fact, even when I made CQ's curries, I lower the salt (and oil)
I don't like takeaways now because all I can taste is the salt and I hate the raging thirst afterwards. I hardly ever eat crisps (Xmas maybe)
However, I have always had low BP so raising it is not an issue.0 -
Ordinary table salt, or sodium chloride, contains high levels of sodium which in large doses disturbs the sodium/potassium balance in the body, which in turn leads to all the problems associated with high salt intake.
I use only Lo-Salt which has a higher level of potassium than sodium. As we need more potassium than sodium, this type of salt is a godsend, and does not taste any different. In fact, it is a very healty salt.

If eating salt raises blood pressure, why is it not recommended that we take loads of it when we have low blood pressure?!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
