Not having had much experience of small boys, I am very surprised that there seems to be an obligatory age at which a change is made from one type of underwear to another.

I thought that males were the same as us females in that it's a matter of personal choice, what is comfortable etc. Women wear different types of knickers according to personal preference, don't we - why should men have to 'change' at a particular age, and what's so special about boxers?

DH wears boxers now, but when he was a young sporty guy, rowing, cycling etc, he tells me that he used to wear something called 'jockey shorts'. He has never in his life worn Y-fronts.

Just what I was going to say!
  • my boy tried boxers at around age 9 and hated them but once he went to high school age 11 a couple of boys laughed and told him he was wearing girls knickers so he asked me for boxers.

at age 8 he told me he was too old for briefs with characters on. again, it's bullying that made him say so, not personal choice.

husband and son both prefer jersey boxers.

on PE days i have to make sure his boxers are white/black depending on what colour PE shorts he is wearing because the boxers come further down the leg than his PE shorts, so red looks silly, and his white shorts are a bit see through anyway.

If it ever suits the child. Surely the whole point is to wear what is comformtable and practical for you.

DS was out of nappies when he turned 3 and I would say probably 4 yr old.

Think my eldest DS was about 6 or 7, I remember I also had to buy DD (three years younger) some as she was quite jealous that he was wearing something she didn't have :rotfl: she was quite a tomboy at the time - she still wears them now - she works as a care assistant and finds they are better than the usual skimpy thongs for wearing under her uniform dress in the summer. Can't remember with youngest DS, he probably inherited eldest DS underpants.

Would you rather I spelt it out?! He was only 3 1/2 after all....how else do you explain that particular medical procedure, apart from emphasising that it will make things a lot easier & less painful!

If you meant circumcised, why on earth didn't you say so? If it's something embarrassing then I apologise.
