I decided to go for the La Romantica Venice, which is a pocket sprung mattress with 2" of memory foam on both sides. From my research this seems like the best choice for someone with joint pain caused by fibromyalgia like myself.
My bed has a sprung beech slatted base top, and having done some research I've found that the only way I can use a pocket sprung mattress with this bed is if the gaps between the slats are only 1" apart. They are around 3" apart on my bed.
I intend to put extra slats inbetween the current slats, or put pegboard on top.
Does anyone know which is the best method?
And does anyone know where to buy pegboard, as I can't find it anywhere...0 -

3" gaps would be fine with a 2 sided memory foam mattress. So you wouldn't have to add anything.0 -

Please let us know what you think of it when you get it - it's on my shortlist too.
I've been looking around for ages but the buying has been delayed by a decision (not mine!) to redecorate the bedroom first.0 -

Why Marks & Spencer ones?
I cant check the links at work, but im sure you'd get a better quality and deal from a proper bed manufacturer...?:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Does this Millbrook Utopia 1400 seem good please, even if it might be non-turn?
http://www.bedworld.net/beds_mattresses/MILUTO--DOUBLE/Millbrook_Beds_Utopia_1400_Divan_Bed.html
Millbrook provides a 2 year guarantee, with 8 year warranty. Whereas another manufacturer, Slumberland for example offer a 5 year warranty:
"The Gold Seal Deluxe benefits from a 5 year product guarantee, Slumberland will, within 5 years and at it's discretion will either repair or replace free of charge any part of the product that is defective due to faulty materials or poor workmanship."
There are also some who provide just 12 months warranty. I have my eye on the La Romantica Venice bed too, but I can't try it out and it only has a 12 month guarantee, so I'm a little put off. How important is it to get a good guarantee and warranty when buying a bed?
Thanks0 -
The quality is good, and will be comfortable and well made...BUT it's a non-turn mattress so will effectively only be 'able' to last half the life of a turnable version. It's a gimmick some firms have used to sell more beds, as they know some people dont like turning mattresses, so if they can buy one that doesnt need turning, it sells. But all they are doing is using less materials and basically halving the potential life of the mattress.
Millbrook are a good brand, but maybe look for another version? If you're spending that kind of money, you may as well get your use out if it! The warrenty will be on a sliding scale contribution towards a new replacement. So if a good new mattress lasts 10years, theirs (in theory) will last 5. And the sliding scale warrenty will mean you need to pay almost the price of a new one to get it replaced. I have had a similar experiance with my own mattress just the other month so am not guessing!

As I have explained previously, most long warranties are on a sliding scale, and are designed to keep you with the same manufacturer. You would need to read the terms and conditions very carefully, otherwise you could end up paying more than you originally paid if there is a fault after a few years.
Also there are many people on MSE who can verfy this, but if an item is designed to last for say 5 years, but there is a fault after 4 years, then the manufacturer must cover at least part of the cost of replacement or repair. This would also be on a sliding scale. So basically this means that legally there is no difference between a manufacturer who gives a 5 year warranty, and one that gives a 12 month warranty. It is just down to marketing making one option sound more attractive.0 -
