No luck.
Really hope item is delivered tomorrow, if not im going to have to send a cheque back to the buyer. Btw, anyone know what happens if I refund the buyer and the item is delivered at a later date.(ie deliverys been stalled for some reason?)
Thanks0 -
They will usually keep their mouths shut. There should be no if's and buts if you sent it by recorded delivery. If you have kept the tracking number you can claim the money back from the PO. But keep checking that if has or hasnt been signed for on that link.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

If you refund the buyer and he later gets the item you need to rely on the honesty of the buyer to reimburse you. However, you would have some leverage as you could do an NPB on him which would put a strike on his account. That isn't sneaky, it is quite allowed as the buyer would have the item for which they had a refund, so they technically hadn't paid.
I would still stall the buyer a bit longer though, at least until two weeks have elapsed. Tell him you will ask the RM sorting offices to do a search and get back to him.

Isn't it possible to get a missing phone blocked (if you have the IMEI number)? Anyway you could mention to the buyer to let you know if it turns up as you intend to try and get it blocked if it remains missing.0

just to say, last week, a recorded delivery parcel 1st class took over two weeks to get somewhere,
give it 15 days - so you can start a claim from royal mail, but refund at the 15th daymoney saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

It will be an expensive lesson (£60) if the phone doesn't get delivered. Try phoning the sorting office both for your area and for the delivery area to see if they can find the parcel on their shelves anywhere.

I think special delivery is a rip-off in most cases. For a few pence you can buy extra compensation cover from the Royal Mail, lifting the insurance level from £30 up to £100 or more. If you're a money saver, it's much cheaper than being conned into buying special delivery by all-too-eager sales (counter) staff at the Post Office. In my experience, the Royal Mail pay up too, if the item is lost of damaged. Always get a certificate of posting, so you can show the buyer that the item was sent.

George can you clarify a little please?
To get the extra insurance on a regular item of post you have to use special delivery, you can't add insurance to post with a COP or Recorded delivery as they just cover up to £30 with no extra possible.
Also whilst a COP shows item was sent it doesn't show item delivered. For ebay, especially where paypal is involved, proof of delivery is essential as it is up to the seller to take responsibility for the package to the point of delivery. So for ebay items must be sent either with a COP so that buyer can be refunded and costs reclaimed from the RM by the seller, or by RD or SD to prove delivery.

To get the extra insurance on a regular item of post you DON'T have have to use special delivery. You just pay 75p extra, or thereabouts, to take the compensation cover from £30 (free) up to £100 (75p).
Now, you may be right that this isn't offered with Recorded Delivery. I don't know. It may be that the Post Office want to shoe-horn you into buying rip-off Special Delivery. But what does Special Delivery offer, when 2nd class standard mail is almost as fast? How many things are that urgent? As for insurance against damage or loss, you're covered for 0p/75p, and they will pay out. The only other thing is that you don't get a signature on delivery, but who needs it? In the unlikely event that the recipient says the item hasn't been received, he can confirm it in writing and you can submit an insurance claim to the Royal Mail.
I put a term in my auctions that the buyer owns goods in transit. Where does eBay say the seller has responsibility for the package to the point of delivery?
I hope this helps.

As i am aware u can get recorded delivery for ist and 2nd class for an extra 66p however u are limited to £30 insurance .
For standard delivery u cant use recorded delivery but can increase the insurance up to £100 for 75p or £250 for £1.75 (i guess they are trying to make u use special delivery for larger parcels with the guarantee of it being signed For).
I Suggest ppl use the exact delivery charges for ebay listing and just get a coa for claim back or if like me u charge extra for postage and packaging, make sure its signed for ( low valued parcels) , wont guaranteed the buyer will get it but will stop buyers lying about not recieving it. For valuable items(over £30) i guess we have no option but to use special delivery if it works out cheaper. i have taken the risk and sent valuable items with recorded ist classs but not sure i,ll be doing it again.0 -
George can you please provide a link to this extra insurance for 75p. I would be very interested in finding anything that can keep costs down.
However I do use special delivery as a marketing tool in my listings..0
