Fake Sky Digital Repair Plan Scam
Comments
-
hi, i dont think i have been so lucky, for around 10 months now i have been paying for an extended warranty on my sky box.
i had had a call from sky themselves and i told them i wanted to speak to my husbnad about it first and they said a colleague would call back in a few days, i phoned sky back first to make sure it was them that had called. and they said yes when i gave them the details that the lady had given me. a few days later i recieved a phone call froma company and took out the extended warranty. i was expecting this call so didnt think anything of it. no long after i receievd letters telling me the company had gone into liquidation and that this other company were taking over my extended warranty, and even tho they would usually charge more for what i was paing for as the amount was allready agreed previously they were still going to charge me that amount. this other company is called digital warranty.
i was asking for the paperwork and i was constantly told the paper work had been sent out when i phoned to ask for it, being left on hold for how ever long every time i called. and according to their system the paper work had been sent out to me.
a few days ago i not sure if i am allowed to put names so wont at the moment unless ia m told it is ok. someone called me from this company saying that they were now only charging me £1 less a month. gave me my telephone number and address and asked me to confirm it. then said they needed card details, he said he didnt need teh security code that is on the back of my card just the long number on the front. so i told them i didnt have my card at that present time my husbdand had it on him and he wouldnt be home from work until much later in the evening, and he said he would call back the following day. i have 2 different telephone numbers for this company if i am allowed to put them also.
then today i had another call, from a lady this time, offering me extended digital warranty and their company name is digital repair services ltd. i said as i am, i am allready paying and she then went on to tell me that that company is a scam. if i would like to check their company out then i could do a search, and there is scam information on this company i am allready paying on line.
i also phoned the fsa who told me neither company is within their database but they would be able to help more if i could give them a copy of the t&c witch obviously i cant as i never recieved them like i was told i should have when i rang.
i also rang sky their extra warranty cover is called sky protect repair+1. and they didnt seem to want to know about these fake companies.
i have been advised to go to cab to see if there is any way of getting the money back i have paid. if any one else has any suggestions for me i would be more than happy. but there seems to be a lot of scam companies out there. and it seems they are getting more clever cos if i remeber right they knew what type of card i had, and as my husband said, who the hell can you trust these days.
any other suggestiosn greatly appreciated
thanx

With an Insurance / Warranty you have a 14 day cooling off period from the date YOU RECEIVE the policy documents to decline cover as it is not suitable.0

As above if you have NOT received the relevant paperwork, you don't have a warranty, tell em to sling their hook:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Hi I just had that call, it was only recently I was browsing this site & saw this item, else I might (just might) have been tempted. Many thanks to all concerned0

Fell out with this lot the other week. They called Mum and asked to speak to my Dad (who's been dead 12 months), Mum says "Sorry he passed away" to which there was a pause and the advisor then said "Well, you still need cover!"
Not amused...0 -
Just to let you know that these shysters are alive and well - I got a call today from JUST DIGITAL. The conversation didn't get very far - once I'd sussed that they wanted to flog me warranty, I asked for their rep's home number / to speak to a supervisor - they hung up.
PS Even if these people were genuine, extended warranties are a waste of time - when my Sky box died (after years of service), I called Sky - engineer came round with new box - £60 'ish. It's only rock 'n' roll ...0 -
Slightly different angle here, I had one years ago, but it was Sky:
Sky: "Your repair plan is due to expire, do you wish to renew?"
Me: "Na no point, I've had it 3 years and never needed it."
Sky: "But if your Sky box breaks down then you'll need to pay to repair it!"
Me: "It's ok, I'll risk it, I'm a rebel!"
Queue the Sky caller to crack up, say to me "fair enough" and hang up. Never had another call! :beer:DEBT LIST

David Reynolds of Satcover guilty of tax fraud
By Andrew Penman on February 25, 2010
For a long time we've said that satellite TV warranty salesman David Reynolds is a charlatan - and now he's been found guilty in a huge fraud case.
The former director of Satellite Direct UK, Satcover and Homecare Services Agreements was found guilty of defrauding the taxman of over £600,000.
Reynolds, 45, from Ditchling, E Sussex, was branded "profoundly dishonest" by the prosecution at Maidstone Crown Court, which heard how income was siphoned into secret accounts hidden from HM Revenue & Customs.
At one stage, Reynolds' empire consisted of 400,000 customers, 700 call centre staff and a turnover of £20million.
But, as we've revealed before, much of that turnover was based on a sham.
His staff would trick victims into thinking they were dealing with Sky, and persuade them to take out a new warranty even though their old one had not expired.
Recently the scam took on an even more blatant twist - we've heard from many customers who say that the decimal point was "accidentally" moved one place on their direct debit, with £65 being taken from their accounts monthly instead of £6.50.
Satellite Direct has since gone bust with debts of £27,117,210.00 and, no, the decimal point isn't in the wrong place. Satcover is in administration.
Reynolds is due to be sentenced next month.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

nomoneytoday wrote: »Why bother. Sky charge a fixed price of £65 ALL IN, so you box would need to break down more often that every 17 months to be worth while at £4 a month... Doesn't sound worth it to me...
Besides, IMHO if the box breaks and Sky don't fix it for free then they lose a customer... Sky agreed with me last week and waived the £65 fee as they would rather have a customer paying full package subs then lose them over a box
I had the same thing, One of my sky boxes went wrong and I phoned Sky and they said it would be £65 for an engineer to come out. I then said "in that case I will cancel my Sky package". They then agreed to send someone out free of charge and I got a new sky box free.0 -
