Useless Halifax

On the 10th June I went into my local Halifax branch & picked up a leaflet about the 10% regular savings account. There was no accounts advisor to able see me that day & I was offered an appointment on Sat.14th June at 11am but as I was going away on holiday the following day I declined.(Too much to do).

I made an appointment for yesterday 8th July at 1pm. I duly arrived a few minutes early & went to the counter & gave my name & stated that I had an appointment to see the accounts advisor to open a 10% regular savings account.

Not only was there no accounts advisor at the branch but they had no record of my appointment! I was informed that ''she'' was at another branch but my appointment was with a man. Unfortunately I didn't have the appointment letter with me. When I got home I found the letter & I was correct about the date/time of the appointment.

If anyone out there knows the whereabouts of the elusive Vinnie Jones from Halifax please let them know!?

As at 10th June accounts had to be opened by 20th July but apparently the 10% account has been withdrawn & then relaunched while I have been away. Who knows what will happen? Will I get to open an account or not?

Can't you open this account on-line?

Yeah, I opened it online. All you need to do is pop in to give proof of name and address though.

When I opened mine I did not realise that when you opened the 10% RS they automaticaly open a nominated account wich your intrests is transefered to at the end of the year.

I though I need to open a Web Saver account for this so I opened one and now have the 10% RS, the nominated account and a Web Saver.

Would this be a usefull account as I have heard it is good for managing savings, or should I just close it?

Exactly the same happened to me last year.

I asked to make a complaint there and then, and a 'senior' was called. She sat me down at a terminal so I could dictate my complaint to her, and said "Look, I could save us both a bit of time and trouble. How about I credit your (current) account with £20 of goodwill?" I was taken aback by this and muttered "I beg your pardon?!", to which she replied "OK then, how does £25 sound?" :rotfl:

I walked away £25 the better, and with an appointment for a later date. :D

I would assume the nominated account is also a web saver. if so, cancel the web saver you set up and keep a minimum amount in your nominated account. The interest rate is only about 4.2% but you can make payment out and use it as a sort of current account if you want to. I wouldn't.

The Bank of Scotland IASA is better than the Halifax Websaver, it pays 5%, and can also be a nominated account.

the Guaranteed saver reward is better at the mo as its 6.25%

and the websaver rate has gone uo today for new accounts (without a card) but the g'teed saver is better if u can fund it with £2.5k

Well this might be coincidence or someone's dark humour but the only Vinnie Jones I know of is the football hardman who played for Wimbledon and others and later starred in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

its the level or service i was getting at. when your in the centre of town and no access to the net until you get home. its often handy to pick up some sort of material to have a read through.

their staff seemed more keen to book appointments and upsell current accounts without listening to the reason i was there.

    highly annoying
