Not necessarily.... as I said I just walked in and opened my account in 10 minutes. Maybe I was just lucky!

And now the Halifax Web Saver Reward is paying an even better 5.8%, no restrictions on withdrawals/deposits.0 -

You're missing the point here. If they want the business they should put themselves out and put the customers needs first. Time was you could walk into any branch of any bank and open an account almost immediately. If they could do it then why not now? There's a thing in this world called management, if you have an increase in business in one area then a good management should channel extra personnel into that area to meet the demand. It's not rocket science, just good practice. The trouble is customers more often than not are treated with contempt rather than respect.Age & Treachery Will Always Overcome Youth & Enthusiasm !!

I didn't leave it to the last minute! I went into Halifax on the 10th June but there was no accounts advisor available so I made an appointment for the 8th July just after I returned from holiday. Halifax let me down by having no accounts advisor in the building when I turned up for the appointment.0 -

Perhaps the branch you work in operates differently. No appointment required in my local branch and process took 10 mins max ( although am an existing customer if that makes a difference)
What's the problem with leaving it until the last minute? Admittedly it was financially a little better to open towards the end of June and fund as close to the 28th as possible initially but it is still best to fund as close to the 18th as possible. Therefore the account can be opened ( to acquire the account number) up to the day before if funding internally otherwise 3 days before,I'd have thought.0 -

my branch is very on-spec. our advisers see about 10 on specs a day. when i meant appointment i meant that when seeing an adviser you could talk about it but not in great detail with a cashier or receptionist, if you understand me.
an on spec there and then is still an appointment techinically as it goes into the diary system recorded.
i didn't say it was a problem funding it at the last minute (i understand what you mean), i was on about people actually opening the account at the last minute when its been available for a while - hence inundated
of course for this offer of 10%/12% the initial opening transaction has to be made before the 20th July0 -

that is very bad for a branch to have no banking adviser!0 -

unfortunately - this account is usually opened by banking advisers only. meaning that in a small branch you may have 2 full timers equivalent, medium 3, and large 4-5 and maybe more. the branch could have 20 appointments already in there when someone walks in.
i understand what you are saying but the cashiers can't open the account , nor the reception
the call centre open them and can be done on=line
what we've done where we work, is some customers filled in the application forms and id checked, and then the account was keyed later (when branch closed) and paperwork posted0 -

But I didnt speak to the cashier. I walked into my branch and an adisor took me into their office, talked through the account and set it all up! :j
To be fair I didnt have any questions to ask her as I knew exactly what I wanted and how I wanted to account to be set up as I would never walk into a bank without an idea of what I want to do. Otherwise you get different answers from different people
