    Hi

I've read about FairFX Mastercard to avoid Ryanair credit card booking fees. It looks like I need to go for the Euro card as the Anywhere card charges a fee unless you load £500.

I really just want to apply for the card as I've got no imminent travel plans wth Ryanair, however I'm confused about the application process. Do I have to choose to buy Euros paying in Sterling? How does this work when I want to pay for a Ryanair flight in Pounds Sterling?

If that's what you want then yes if you have a euro card you pay in sterling at FairFx's reasonable exchange rate

Ryanair then rook you changing your payment back at a rate advantageous to them.

What about the Caxton Global (sterling) card for booking Ryanair flights? £100 load and £1.50 fee per transaction.

I'll look at this, wonder what the disadvantages are over FairFX as that's supposedly the best.

I think Fairfx may be best for foreign currency, this one is sterling. However Caxton suited me better as we are not regulars with Ryanair and would never be booking 1p flights.
  • Hello everyone. Earlier this week I followed a link from here to TravelMoneyMax in order to get a decent rate for some US dollars. I used Crown Currency Exchange as it was showing as the best rate at the time. I ordered £3000 worth of dollars through them and payed by bank transfer via my online banking. The following day the payment had cleared however when I tried contacting Crown their phone lines were down along with their other company TMS (Travel Money Services). When you log onto Crowns site and try to order it directs you to another company called ICE (International Currency Exchange) when I called them they stated that they have no connection with Crown or TMS. Strange?? It looks like Crown and TMS have gone bump and we've lost our wedding money!
Crown are still listed on TravelMoneyMax offering the best exchange rates so please avoid them as you will almost certainly come away with nothing!
If anyone else can shed some light on this i'd be extremely grateful.

Rich - I attempted to order Canadian Dollars online on Wednesday this week as my in-laws have used this company a couple of times before and had great service. I went to order via their website and after confirming all details it came up with a syntax error and would not let me progress. I contacted the company (managed to get through) and the guy I spoke to was very abrupt and said that they were having issues and to call tomorrow, tried calling for the last 2 days and 0800 number goes to deadair and then engaged or unobtainable, calling their main 01736 number it connects and they hang up or goes to answerphone where you get no callback.
I will now look around for another company as I do not trust this one and not even sure if they are still trading.

  • Thanks Daren,

I've been trying them all morning and still not getting through. Its not looking good and I feel absolutely gutted because the money was all of our savings to be used as spending money on our wedding! To say i'm in the dog house is an understatement!!

Well their web site does say they are having technical issues and does say it is redirecting you before it does so.

So what's going on is not yet clear. No help to those whose money is already in the system even if it does get resolved in a few days.
  • Apparently the company has had its assets frozen by the bank and details will be available later on today. The people at ICE say that trading should resume later but who knows? I've just got my fingers crossed at the moment! _pale_
