You didn't look very well, apparently ;) - see http://www.nationwide.co.uk/current_account/apply.htm.

One of the options is "I am opening an e-Savings, e-Savings Plus or e-Bond" - the minimum deposit in an e-Savings account is only £1.

I tried that but it just sends you to the same page for applying for the flexaccount. I went through that application process and I then just got offered the cash card account....which I eventually accepted as I could find no way of getting the e-savings or flexaccount.

I'm going to go into the branch tomorrow and ask them.

You can't open the e-Savings account until you have the Flex account, as one is dependant on the other - all you were doing was saying that you intend to open one (when your Flex account is open) - that's why it bounced you back to the application page.

The Cash Card is operated by Cirrus, I believe, and there are currently no fees for withdrawing cash from foreign ATMs.

How will I go about getting a flexaccount from where I am now then? Or will I be ok travelling with the Santander Zero credit card and the Nationwide cash card? I was under the impression the article was saying that the Visa Debit card was what I needed?

Posters on this and other forums have reported fee-free ATM withdrawals abroad with their Cash Cards - as I said earlier, you need to check with Nationwide as far as use in India/Nepal is concerned.

Ok, thanks Baldur. I'll wait for the details to come through and take it from there.

The Flex account IS a current account - see my reply to bowner re: checking with Nationwide.
