Thanks. She's gone today so will try to withdraw the whole 700 euros in one go to keep charges down. I'll let you know if she can.

She was able to withdraw 700 euro maximum in one go so the 3euro charge wasn't too bad.
  • So, followed the guide. Got a Halifax clarity but still want some Euros to take with me as a contingency against cash machine being out of order etc.
Used the currency search engine for Euros to be delivered to my house and all the cheapest suppliers charge 2% for using a credit card and I'll be stung by debit card charges by the bank if I use that instead. So I can't actually use the results thrown up to get cheap currency delivered. Am I missing something here?

Most of the large resort hotels have their own ATM machine in reception. When I was in Egypt earlier this year, our hotel's ATM struggled to reboot after a power cut so we just went across the road to use the one in the Hilton resort reception. The really don't mind.

Agreed. Point still stands though that it seems impossible to actually attain the good rates quoted for currency delivery due to the inevitable credit card or debit card charges.

Not all banks charge for that - Nationwide certainly don't and I'm sure there are others

There used to be a list in the money saving guide but if it's still there I can't find it.

well USD will be ok for orlando obviously and you can take extra to exchange on the ship when you get to the different destinations all depends where you are going
  • Was thinking more along the lines of best options in regards how to exchange, when i used to go anywhere in Europe would usually just get travellers cheques. Wonder if it might be worth looking at something else instead?
  • cash is king
travellers cheques is good but depends if any commission on changing although changing cash can be the same
another option is a prepaid cash card but again there could be fees involved , although small if you use it a few times those couple pound charges add up

i work in a travel bureau and my advice is to take USD either cash/TC and change when get there

the difference in the exchange isnt a massive amount unless your changing 1000s

you will no doubt get loads of different answers from different people , this is just my honest opinion
  • Thank you for your advice just wondering if it might be worth applying for the Halifax clarity card and then maybe have something as a back up to that.
