I'm a bit clueless when it comes to computers!!
I think it's a very good buy particularly if your buy this as well.

Make sure you do all the necessary backups they recommend as soon as you get it. Then there will be no problems if you have to re-load the operating systemI'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

I found a laptop that i liked and the boyfriend said was good (dont understand much of the techie stuff lol) at this site
http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Asus_X50N-AP179C__Notebook_-_AMD_1.6GHz_-_2GB_-_120GB_HD_X50N-AP179C/version.asp
330 + 10 delivery
typed the name into google to see if i could get it cheaper anywhere else and found this site
http://www.simplyasus.com/ASUS_X50N-AP179C_410225.html
310 and free delivery. the only thing im confused about is that the first one says dual core which the boyfriend says i need, whereas the other one doesnt say dual core. they have the same name its just the dual thing. if somebody could help me out and tell me if they are the same thing i would appreciate it a lot, as 30 is quite a saving for a new student money saver

Haven't read the whole thread but I had one of these from Dab's - £340 new (when in stock) and it's by far the best laptop i've had. Don't forget quidco too

Could you experts please advice me if this is a good spec:
Dell - Intel Core 2 Duo
Vista Home Premium
17inch widescreen
2x1024 667mhz dual memory
160gb hard drive 7200rpm
Spec seems good.,,,depends what core 2 duo processor it is, ie 2000, 5000,7500...but is still good even if the lower one.
Im going to assume it has 2gb RAM....so all in all it is a good spec.0 -
core 2 duo processor Y5760 1.8ghz, 2mb, 800mhz??
I can't even find the RAM anywhere on the spec...
I hope this makes sense to you xombie :rotfl: . Thanks for your help :T
And its £370... is it worth it ?
Thank you0 -
Think I've finally found the best laptops as of August 2008!
I'm looking to spend as little as possible on a laptop to use for work databases, internet browsing, listening to music etc...
Anything below £300 in my opinion just won't cut it as you will end up with a bad spec.
I am looking for a *Brand New* (2nd hand deals are cheating!) laptop to last for the next 5 years or so but on a budget at the same time.
Vista models only to keep up to date & personal preference so 2GB RAM to run Vista smoothly is a minimum too.
All the laptops I found run on Vista Home Premium.
WiFi is a must for a business laptop and a minimum of 80GB hard disk space would be enough/the minimum for light work.
Mainly looking at Core 2 Duo but otherwise Dual Core to see how cheap i can go...
I think people must be mad to spend so much money on an under spec'd laptop from the likes of tesco!
The laptops found in this thread so far have not really come across to me as good value to be honest apart from the:
1
Misco.co.uk - Fujitsu Siemens V5535 £330
Dual Core (so not as fast as Core 2 Duo which is supposed to be 20% faster)
160GB HDD
2GB RAM (Max 2GB)
15.4" Widescreen
2
Next alternative I found is the Acer Aspire 5720 Core 2 Duo on Play.com for the same price £330 as the Fujitsu above with very similar spec. For the same price you get a better processor (20% faster) however you sacrifice 80GB / half of your hard drive space and is a little heavier at 3.36kg.
3
Looking to find an even cheaper laptop for similar spec the last I came across is from AcerDirect.co.uk!
Acer Aspire 5715Z @ £299.97
Dual Core
2GB RAM
80GB HDD
15.4" Widscreen
2.8kg
I've noticed all these laptops have the spec to rival other laptop deals that are around up to £600 systems so don't waste your money and do your research!
Now I'm stuck with which one to go for? The Core 2 Duo seems to stick out the most?
Also found a couple of eBay specials which were a bit better but they're never a certain buy so didnt list them.0 -
