I'm waiting for mine to be delivered, but if the new Elonex UPC (and I know some will argue it's not powerful) is comparable to the Asus EEE then at 99 (yes 99) pound inclusive of delivery then there's a whole new market being blown wide open.
    Check out the spec here:

:j My son bought a brand new core 2 duo 3 weeks ago from currys for £150. The price of the comp was actually £550 but he needed a mobile broadband connection because he has no home phone! I noticed an instore advert offering £400 pounds off if you took a mobile broadband connection on 18 months contract at £30 per month(T mobile I think). When I inquired no-one had taken up the offer and staff were unaware of it, however they dug out the paperwork and sure enough about 30 different models were included.
Only Currys have this offer not PC World

I was in carphone warehouse at the weekend and they are giving you a free laptop if you take out their £30 per month contract
  • Can I just correct you - Lenovo is not the budget arm of IBM but is in fact the Chinese company that IBM sold it's PC business to a few years back. Happily they seem to have maintained the high IBM standard for the Thinkpads and they're much cheaper now.

    Hi Folks,
Just a warning really about 14 months ago I bought an Acer 5100 aspire laptop with all bells and whistles for £500 it has now blown the motherboeard and is too expensive to repair at £300 for a replacement motherboerd, shop where bought refuses to do anything except if I pay and acer dont want to know. Anyone want an Acer aspire for spares or repair?

Good Hunting but be wary of what and where you buy.

    Regards,

The play.com acer is now out of stock. Damn!
Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o :o
  • For a really cheap and reliable laptop you should try www.dell.co.uk

Don't bother with the normal Home consumer stuff though as it's quite expensive. Go to the Small and Medium Business part of their website for a Vostro laptop.

For ultra cheap you can get a V1000 for £258 inc vat and delivered.
or for something better you can get a V1510. Worth trying to pick the best base spec first and then doing few upgrades because otherwise if you upgrade a cheap machine it makes it more expensive than starting with a medium one.

They tend to have various offers on at different times.

Last month I bought a 1510 with a T5670 CPU, 2Gb Ram, Vista, 160Gb HDD for £292 inc vat and del. Don't think that deal is there still but there are some nearly as cheap.

    Matt.

Yes you will get it for that price, I have just done the same thing. The trouble is when (or if) it will be back in stock.

It is £400 on ebuyer.co.uk (free delivery) so I might just get it from there for the extra £20, its still a bargain.

Also be warned that there are two products called "Acer Aspire 5920" on play.com, both at the same price but one has a worse spec (in my opinion).

The one with the worse spec is still in stock. It has a bigger hard drive but an inferior processor.
