Trudi,
could you attach a link to that model on Amazon and explain what dicsounts need to be used to get it down to £184.37?
Many thanks0 -
I'd be careful about chasing prices, instead I think the best way to get the right laptop at the best price is to first work out what specification you need.
Once armed with that, then go off and look for the best deal. I got caught out, I went with a bargain price last year and have ended up with an under powered machine, currently looking to replace it!
Money saved all round by getting the right specification first time around.0 -
:j My son bought a brand new core 2 duo 3 weeks ago from currys for £150. The price of the comp was actually £550 but he needed a mobile broadband connection because he has no home phone! I noticed an instore advert offering £400 pounds off if you took a mobile broadband connection on 18 months contract at £30 per month(T mobile I think). When I inquired no-one had taken up the offer and staff were unaware of it, however they dug out the paperwork and sure enough about 30 different models were included.
Only Currys have this offer not PC World0 -

Just looked on Amazon - laptop now £379 but discounts are not what I received - so sorry. I added Office 2007 and wireless mouse and got the huge discount - really not sure how!0 -

I've just bought one of these. It is a slight deviation from the common theme because this is an Ultra Portable PC rather than a generic laptop, but an absolute bargin at £289. Here is why....
This machine is EXACTLY the same as the MSI Wind, which has just been released. Right down to the serial nnumbers on the batteries. Yet it is some £60-£100 cheaper depending on where you buy it. You still get
1.6Ghz Intel Atom Processor
80 GB Hard Drive & 1GB Memory
10" Ultra bright screen
Weight is 1.2Kg
In my opinion, this machine beats the Asus 701/901, Acer Aspire One, the HP 2133 Mini-Note and the MSI Wind. And for the money you save, you could easily afford a second battery while still spending less than the alternatives.0 -
Just a note to say remember using discount codes and a cashback site if relevant to the store!Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!0

Hi,
I saw a post on this web site 2-3 months ago about reconditioned laptops from Currys. I bought a 17" Advent with 250gb hard drive for £269 (no added VAT). GREAT LAPTOP and not a mark on it. If you dont see what you want ie if you want a 17" or 19" screen, wait 1 week and have another look as they add new stock the whole time. Also IF I get a problem I know I can call into any Currys store and get it fixed (unlike other online or ebay sellers)0 -
Forget processor speed (do worry about memory), the biggest issue is Hard Disk SPEED - not size.
Disks can vary from 2,400rpm up to 7,200rpm!
Anything less than 7,200rpm will seem very slow in a year or two...
Sometimes a bigger disk is cheap due to being older technology - fine for occasional storage but no good to run windows.
Cheers

Martin's slacking I see
7520 for £299.99? no no no.... £299.98 @ ebuyer :money: still, quidco makes the play deal much better
As for reconditioned, I got the neighbours to order an HP one from dixons a few days ago which should hopefully arrive tomorrow. it's around the 5920 spec but better graphics and 17" screen, and a TL-60 for £339.99 after various discounts (+ an extra £10 from quidco). so long as it's working fine (fingers crossed) it's a damn good deal.
And as above have said, pay attention to upgradeability as well as current specs. A 2 GB laptop that takes up to 4 GB is better in the long term than one only taking max 2 GB. And don't get too hung up on a single component either, as it's a lot harder to change anything than in a regular pc. Make sure the graphics, cpu, memory, HD, screen, etc are all gonna be good enough for you.
Here's some decent benchmark lists too:

Being a mac enthusiast I draw your attention to Apple Certified Refurbished models which can knock a bit of the sting out of purchasing one of the best pieces of kit around although not quite as cheap as £300.00 odd,
Apple Store UK, bottom right-hand corner, refurbished macs and ipods etc....
Good luck!0
