I have just bought some Epson cartidges from Phoenix
Direct.com
I paid £22 for 8 cartridges - 4 black cartridges and 4 colour cartridges. They are p and p free and I ordered them at 10am and they were delivered at 7am next day.0 -
The best I've found for my Epson RX-500 is
http://www.inkandstuff.co.uk/default.php?cPath=113_305
Colour carts £4.39 each or 5 for £19.96
Free postage too.
Choice Stationery & Pheonix Direct beat these prices by a country mile. For a full pack for an RX500 it is £15.99 from choice stationery and £15.98 from phoenix direct. The competition is hotting up !! All prices include VAT & postage. Does your printer drink ink like mine ???

whats the quality of colour printing with these cartridges?0 -
Thanks "theloft" £15.99 is great value. I've ordered a set of carts. They aren't the same make, my last ones were Inkright which were ok, but I'm sure there isn't much difference. I'll report back once I've tried them....
...and yes my printer does drink ink - there is no way I would pay £65+ for a set of Epson cartridges, it just isn't worth it. Perhaps if original carts were around £6-7 I would, but as long as people buy them I don't think the price will drop.0 -

Have you taken the trouble to look on any of the websites listed on this board ?? As previously stated Choice Stationery & Pheonix are about the best for price, and you can check if they do the C64 carts.

I'm all up for these compatible ink cartridges but should I pay a bit more for a better quality one for printing out images from my digital camera or are these cheaper alternatives sufficient?

Have just installed a set from Choice Stationery. So far so good! But like all things in life I guess, you pays your money and takes your choice !! The fact remains that OEM carts. are a rip-off, hence this board.
MAXIMANS have just advised me of their SALE
Check them out on : https://www.maximans.co.uk
You may get better service than I did and there are reports of many satisfied customers."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -
I recently bought two different types of compatible cartridge for my R300 and the printer just will NOT recognise them - I tried resetting the chip, but that didn't work either. I've spent over £300 on cartridges, so am glad to see the suggestion of turning the printer off to 'fool' it. Just printed it and will try it tomorrow when I go into work, but wanted to say thanks - anything's worth a try

steeev asked about phoenix cartridges:whats the quality of colour printing with these cartridges?
I use phoenix compatibles, (Epson unchipped for Epson Stylus Colour 740/760/860/1160/SCAN2000/2500).
They currently cost £19 inclusive of postage etc. for 8 pairs!
Quality seems fine, and no problems to report.

With Epsons, their warning systems for empty cartridges seems based on number of pages printed, rather than measuring how much ink remains.
When the red light comes on (meaning put a new cart in), I have always just removed the existing cart and then immediately put it back in.
The printer then carries on using the old cart until the ink is truly used up.
Eventually when the quality indicates the ink has run out, then by pressing and holding the paper advance button on the printer (the one with the arrow) the cart carriage moves to the usual place for changing carts.
Put in a new cart (may need to run the nozzle cleaning utility) and all is fine - the printer's measuring system gets reset each time a new cart is fitted, so will start blinking at the normal time with this new cart.0
