sWITCHED SUPPLIERS AND LANDED WITH HEFTY BILL

I was originally with British gas and switched to Southern Electic I then switched back To British gas as they said they could match what southern wer charging. The fixed payments were £34 for gas and £18 for electricity. But when I changed back to British Gas I received a bill from Southern Electric for £90 for gas and £60 for elctricity despite only having been with them for two months. So what is the point in changing suppliers if you are hit with bills like this? I understand the reason they charged me so much is because the fixed direct debit is the same each month so your bill averages out as you use less energy in the summer. Has anyone else experienced this problem.

They can't charge you for more than you actually use, so if your direct debits put you in credit over the two months they should pay you back the balance. It's your money, they owe it to you.

If they don't automatically refund a positive balance back when you leave them you may have to phone up and whinge. I had to do that once. Have a look at your final bill and if it's in credit phone them up. They might merely be dragging their heels.

Check your bills are based on real readings and not estimates

  • If I can provide any assistance I would like to help. I am a Southern Electric employee tasked with resolving customer problems, you can email me at david.davison@scottish-southern.co.uk (if you check our website you should be able to see this is a genuine email address.)

Sometimes the opening and closing readings could be estimated and this would be a simple problem to resolve. If you would like any help please contact me.

    just be aware.. :)
  • I appreciate your concerns; I have already cleared this contact method with MoneySavingExpert and sent them an e-mail with a link to this thread so they can verify authenticity.

By all accounts I would require no personal details from you apart from post code and house number. With these details I would be able to provide sufficient details from your time with us to show I'm genuine.

Once again I appreciate your concerns and this is only natural, the offer is still there as we would still like to resolve any problems we can.
