I may have to cancel my course and to say I'm gutted is an understatement :(

It's because I've already had a term's money from the student loan people this year as I was at uni last term :( I can't afford to do it without the financial support.

I've spoken to three advisors, two said I won't get anything, one said I might get something. Not very hopeful and the course starts next weekend so I can't leave it hanging :(:(

  • Hi guys, how long does it take to get a place confirmed? I'm probably being impatient. The course starts in May. I registered online and they sent me a letter and leaflet to apply for funding. I sent that back 2-3 weeks ago but haven't heard anything (yet). Just wondered how long it usually takes - only asking as i can't wait to start and also need to invest in a laptop, need to know how much help i could get and how much money i need to find by May.

They prioritise the January starters first, then they'll deal with applications for funding for the next batch of courses. So my guess would be you'll hear towards the end of February. If you're eligible for funding for course fees, you may also be able to get a grant for a computer, so you should look into that now. http://www3.open.ac.uk/contact/faq.aspx?t=S&cat=1-2IH24G Sorry if you already know about that, it wasn't clear from your post.

Thank you SWMBO, i should be eligiable for both but if for some reason i'm not i still want to do the course so will need to start saving. Seems i'm just being a bit impatient.

Is it ok to join you all? I've done SK195 - and loved it! I'm trying to get a degree while my children are at school, I have five and one of mine is often off ill so with that and 4 different school term dates and inset days I am a sahm :o . I'm currently doing year 2 work and am struggling with SK277 human biology and am about to start T211 design and designing. I find the easiest way to contact my tutors is to email them through the 'contact your tutor' link on the course information page, I've always been able to agree a phone tutorial using this method and my most recent tutor offered to visit me at home if I felt I needed it bless him :D .

I just looked back at how much I have done towards this and it gave me a boost, ( I have 90 points) my first TMA with SK277 gained me my lowest marks so far - 54 :( so I better get my head down!

Edit - just been looking on the ousa webshop and they have old exam papers for £1.25 each downloadable, so relieved they have both my current courses as the forthcoming exams scare me silly.

Eek - first face to face tutorial tomorrow morning - feeling strangely nervous - like the first day of school!

    Hope everyone is ok

Gemmzie - have you managed to sort anything out so you can stay on your course? x x
