Has anyone got a link to report keyword spamming?
There's a report link at the bottom of this page.

    Just trademark it! :rotfl:
  • It's pretty random - I bought a Barbour style jacket which ended up being 2 sizes too big for me anyway re -listed it using same title as it had been when I bought it - Barbour Style and it got taken off for exactly that the word 'style ' also had other things taken off when I have used the word 'like' as in 'like' Next - so think the e-bay police are watching me and once they have got you once your card is marked - so luck of the draw really but you gotta try these things - believe me I have had several items taken off but so far not been suspended (she says you watch it'll happen to me now !!) oh I am a 500+ feed back 100% ebayer by the way so not a novice at this !!
Mind you I am having murders with a zero bidder at the moment who is accusing me of robbing him - but thats another story which I wont bore you with - Have a good weekend everyone

Yes, and if the owner of the brand objects to you selling their product they can still get your listings pulled.

So say you were selling an item from Evans, it would be better to say "from the major retailer of ladies outsize items"! Am I getting the gist of this? I do have an Evans item to sell, so should I put that in? I noticed others have.

Well Evans don't strike me as the kind of people to ferociously protect their brand-image ;), but if you were selling top designer gear, some companies might object to you "cheapening" their products by listing them on ebay. I'd imagine the slogan will help people who feel the need to google and check these things out, though.

I don't think that's the case at all, and if eBay were to pull listings just because the owners of the genuine brands did not like their goods being sold secondhand, then
    1. There would be a major boycott of those brands, which people like me would join en masse, and
    2. Refunding listing fees would be a matter of legal obligation rather than goodwill.
The fact that a menu is offered to sellers listing clothes, from which they can select the brand or choose "other" and specify the brand later if not on the list, suggests that eBay expect sellers to specify the brand of the actual item they are selling.
What is not permitted, (though it's common practice and most likely only acted upon if reported by competitors) is, as eBay puts it,
Keyword spamming occurs when members place brand names or other inappropriate keywords in a title or description to gain attention or divert members to a listing.
In other words, as people have already said, sellers using phrases like "NOT (named brand)", "like (named brand)", "(named brand)-style" or (e.g. in the case of an accessory compatible with various cars, cameras, computers or whatever), "for (named brand 1, named brand 2, named brand 3) etc".

I'm really surprised that some of you dont like getting your item pulled, but then go on to report others. How petty.

Unfortunately, it can and does happen. Under the VeRo programme, ebay will pull any listing that a brand owner does not want listed. There have been a couple of threads posted here recently about this and there is nothing the seller can do about it. In the end, proprietary rights afford the owner absolute discretion over how, where and by whom their products are sold.

The point about selling is to gain maximum exposure for your items and hopefully a better price. One of those ways is by using keywords. It saves on fees but is frowned upon by ebay for obvious reasons. But if everyone is doing it then you need to as well.

Now if competitors are going to report your listings for keywords and by default gain a competitive advantage of course you are going to report them. It is suicide not to.

And is no way PETTY all is fair in love and war!!!
