I flew with Delta back in 2006, they had good service but didn't have tv in the seats though looking at what other posters have said I was one of the unlucky ones.

I flew with Virgin last year to the states and I found their service to be appaling. In an 8 hour flight to Florida I can only have been offered a couple of drinks, being as this was 6 months after travelling with Malaysia Airlines who were outstanding they were shown up even more.

I'm flying again with Delta in October to Florida and looking forward to their service as as everyone else say, their service follows the american love of customer service not the british view that its just something extra to do.

Agree, used Virgin over many years but now the service is awful

Used Delta this year into Atlanta and Jacksonville and it was excellent, also had to cancel a flight to Denver beginning of June with Delta due illness and Delta gave a full refund even though the tickets were non-refundable, they just asked for the medical letter and sent a very nice letter of concern with refund - highly recommended

I imagine many of us have flown LHR to JFK - you might want to be more specific, and start a new thread?

I have used Delta on the MAN>NYC>Boston route and found them very good.

No experience of virgin but have had some poor reports from those who have.

virgin are relying on the reputation they built up many years ago . i'd love someone to tell me quite what they offer today that the other airlines don't.

Large drunken stag groups and trolly dollies who ask dog collar wearing Vicars "Are you the Hindu meal ?" and not very comfortable seats.
Well that was my last two experiences of them. I also find them very tight on baggage allowance compared with Delta.

I'm still giggling at the Rolls Royce comment-twenty years ago Virgin had a fabulous product -nowdays not at all-at least not in economy.

Delta by comparison I find are pretty good (No airline is great in economy) the seats are comfier-the cabin crew are friendly and polite and the planes are in good repair. They also have a far better schedule-lots of flights and their new Airbuses are probably the most comfortable aircraft across the Atlantic-I can actually sleep in them which is something I never experienced with Virgin.

I'm not sure what "luxuries" American Airlines offer I used to have frequent flyer status with them before moving to Delta (nothing wrong with AA-I just prefer Gatwick to Heathrow and Delta offer both) and I'd say Delta have the edge over AA.

    Sorry-another vote for Delta here.

The baggage allowance on Delta is now 1 bag at 23 kgs compared to virgin's 2 bags.

The allowance is up to 3, but you must pay for bags 2 and 3.

Actually, i prefer this, as I don't end up paying for something i don't use.

BTW, I always seem to find Delta cheaper than Virgin when departing from MAN
