Having flown with Virgin for many many years and having accumulated (and used) in that time hundreds of thousands of miles ive finally decided to try an alternative airline.
Delta. I have never flown with them but am flying from Man to Atlanta and return from LAX to MAN.
So........ Has anyone any experience?

Went with them to JFK from Manchester last year. Great airline, great prices at the time, the only thing was the food - it was nice but it was mostly cheese with this and that and yes you've guessed it I don't like cheese.0

Did they have the seat back TV's mate?0 -
There is no comparison between Virgin and Delta....Virgin are the Rolls Royce airline whilst Delta are the second hand Ford Escort. Beware at peak periods when they regularly overbook Transatlantic flights by approx 25 passengers in the hope they don't turn up. It took me 3 days to get back from Florida once with little compensation.0

I would completely disagree with this.
I was very disappointed last time I flew with Virgin, they were extremely poor. I think Virgin used to be a good airline, but are nothing special now.
I was pleasantly surprised with Delta. I got more legroom than Virgin (I don't know what plane types I travelled on, so can't be more specific), half decent food and excellent service. For economy service on a UK - US route, I don't think you will get better.
You will find that all full service airlines overbook, Virgin certainly do!
sturll, I flew from MAN to JFK with Delta. I think what I liked the most was that they had the American customer service mentality, which we so often lack. I really did expect the worst from them, but was very impressed.Gone ... or have I?0 -

VS the Rolls Royce, you are having a laugh. I have never used Delta but recently used AA and Northwest and also like the attitude of CS. Also found both had far better legroom and pitch in economy than Virgin. AA did not have seatbacks but it might be because we went from Manchester. If you travel from LHR then all airlines use there best planes from there. try www.flyertalk.com for info specific to Delta. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

i used them in 2006 man-jfk, jfk-vegas, vegas-jfk and jfk-man.
i found them to be fine - not exactly the luxury you would expect from some other airlines but we got the flights at a MUCH better price than any other airline and we preferred to spend our money on great hotels than slightly better flights.
seats were comfy enough with tvs in the back of seats in some flights (depends on size of plane).
when you book online you can prebook your seats using a picture of seat layout.
food was about as good as you get on any flight when travelling economy.
service was fine.
all in all i would say they are fine - you dont get as much legroom or other luxuries as say american airlines or virgin etc but they are cheap and i would fly with them again 100%
infact i have just realised that this time 2006 i was actually flying from las vegas to new york for my honeymoon. we watched the july 4th firework display from our hotel room whilst having room service - it was lovely.
anyway - i say go with delta.0 -
virgin are relying on the reputation they built up many years ago . i'd love someone to tell me quite what they offer today that the other airlines don't.0

We flew with Delta May 08 from JFK to Man and found the service exceptional, they did have tv screens in the seats and plenty of leg room. We had no delays and managed to change our seats to emergency exits with no extra charge, all in all a great end to a great holiday in new york.0
