I'm not quite sure about these Flexcell mattresses, and have seen some very mixed reviews about them. The memory foam is the right depth, and although it is at the very bottom end of the acceptable density range, it is still acceptable. However, what concerns me most is the fact that the mattress is supposed to be pocket sprung, yet comes vacuum packed and rolled up. I really would like to know how they do this without causing damage to the springs. Kozeesleep actually sell a pocket sprung/memory foam mattress that comes vacuum packed, but it is flat and not rolled up. When I was told by them that is was vacuum packed I questioned them as to it being rolled up, but they put my mind at rest saying 'no way, that would completely ruin the springs'.lisagotchi wrote: »

The Sleepeezee mattress that I have been referring to comes rolled up.0 -

£229 delivered from eBay.
OK, after loads of research I've worked out how you got a pocket sprung/memory foam mattress so cheap. It actually confused me because other beds at byfleetbeds aren't really that cheap.
It appears that Sleepeezee must have had a special offer on that model. I have actually found the double as cheap as £220. However even byfleetbeds have put the price back up to £270 + delivery. The highest price I have found them at is £325. Also it is an encapsulated pocket sprung mattress, which although still being better than open coil sprung mattresses, they aren't as good as a normal pocket sprung mattress. They are cheaper to produce though.0 -
Wow you know what you're talking about.
I pat myself on the back for having made the most of a limited time offer, in that case.
Good luck finding something comfortable. It is the one household item that my hubby and I decided to splash out on, and we really had no regrets.0 -
Thanks for the tips. I will definitely go to a bed shop and try them out! Does anyone have any experience re: Argos, Homebase or Ikea or anywhere like that, or is it better to go to somewhere like Dreams?
Can anyone explain to me the memory foam/sprung mattress? I have slept on a memory foam mattress before and found it very uncomfortable as I am a fidgeter and like to change position several times a night - on memory foam this doesn't work as I end up lying across my own dents in the wrong ways! But someone above mentioned one being the "right depth" of memory foam.I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -

Argos and Homebase are the same company. As a general rule with them goods are only cheap if they are on special offer. Most items that appear to be cheap are just cheap quality.
Ikea mattresses are just cheap quality.
Dreams like to fill your head with rubbish to try and baffle you into spending far more than you need to. They have price promises on items that are exclusive to themselves. And many of their staff don't even seem to know about the products that they are selling.
(these aren't just my opinions, you will find many of what I have just said echoed in other threads).
Try shopping on line for the best value for money.foreversomeday wrote: »Can anyone explain to me the memory foam/sprung mattress?
There are different types of memory foam mattress, but all of them are made up from a memory foam layer on top of another layer that gives the bounce:- Reflex foam/memory foam is the most common type. This is because anyone could easily make one. All you need it to take a slab of reflex foam, then glue a slab of memory foam to it, then put it in a cover. The problem with this type is that the heat can't escape from the memory foam layer because it is insulated by the reflex foam.
- Open coil sprung/memory foam are on a par with reflex/memory foam as far as support goes. However they are cooler because the air can circulate through the spring layer.
- Pocket sprung/memory foam give by far the best support with the benefits of both pocket springs and memory foam combined. these are also cooler than the reflex foam type. This type of mattress is also available as a two sided mattress if you search hard enough. This is essential to get the best life out of a pocket sprung mattress.

If the recovery rate of the memory foam is so slow that you have difficulty changing position, then the density is too high (probably combined with the memory foam being too deep). Was it a Tempur mattress by any chance??0 -

Memory foam isn't actually suitable if you like a soft mattress as it has to be high density to work properly and give you good support. So you would be better off with pocket sprung only.0 -
nnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooo

i have a orthapedic or however spelt mattress at the moment and i havent had so much backache, i have shoved a memory foam topper on it and i am not having no backache for the last wk i have bought it.0 -

exprog, you are very lucky for that brand to last as long as it has.
Sorry, I have no idea what you mean by that.
I have no connection with 'Rest Assured' except as a customer. In the distant past (long before 1998) when I was first looking into buying a new bed I came across lots of good reviews for them. So far as I know they have always been a quality brand, no matter what other brands the company group may offer. The one I bought in 1998 is one of the firmest and top-of-the-range ones that they offered at that time. Like I said, it wasn't cheap - I don't remember exactly how much but even in a sale it was quite a bit. I am not in the least surprised that it is still as good as new after ten years. I expected no less.
The link for 'Rest Assured' is http://www.rest-assured.co.uk/
Their site has a facility to 'find your nearest stockist'. The places that sell 'Rest Assured' are unlikely to be the likes of Homebase and would likely also offer other good brands.0
