    Hi Sazzy

I had a great birthday thanks.

Enjoyed the Thai meal but I ate the small amount of rice it came with and a few prawn crackers and felt really bloated last night.

Had bacon omelette this morning with coffee and intend to stay on low carb as I am desperate to lose the "bloat" - being hypothyroid does not help either.

Is it only me or does anyone else find they can try three pairs of trousers from the same store (Mand S) and one can be a little loose, one a bit tight and the other hardly do up at all?

One DD gave me some money for my birthday so if DH will give me a lift to a big Sainsbury I want to get a couple of nice cardigans for the winter- they are a rounded style that is not supposed to do up so I hope they will fit even when I lose weight.

It has been pouring with rain and feels like winter already!

Glad you had a nice day hun:) No it's not just you, clothes shopping is a nightmare! Sizes are never consistent. And as you can imagine, being a 5ft midget doesn't help either, let alone being overweight. Nothing ever fits!! In my experience,"petite sizes" are designed for women with less curves than a ruler lol. Oh well... let's hope with a bit more weight off, as you say, clothes shoppping will be less of a depressing experience!

Sun is out here at the mo... must try and get out of the office at some point today, but it's not at all warm - and this is mid August!!

elona - i know how you feel!

i'm buying everything in 3 sizes at the moment and getting at best half a dozen wears out of each thing

i'm constantly between sizes. today my jeans fit but next week they'll be falling down!

and yet the scales haven't moved for about 3 weeks  i must be building lots and lots of muscle ;)

have bought a mini sewing machine to try and learn to alter my clothes in an attempt to save at least a bit of money

i'm learning to buy styles that look okay fitted and looser, which helps, and am even having to buy smaller belts to hold things up!

OH and I eat at a local thai regularly, but they still don't understand that we don't eat rice! They find it really strange! We usually order a couple of veg dishes to bulk it out a bit!

    Hi everybody

Hope you don't mind me butting into your thread.
I have been thinking of doing Atkins and doing some research I have read the book and some stuff online.
I am a bit scared to start incase I cannot stick to it. I have failed on so many diets but what I read does give me some hope I may be able to stick to the plan.
I have quite a few questions though I hope you don't mind me asking here.
First I read earlier that Shykins spends about £50 a week on groceries. That is my budget and I can't go over it much. Do you think I can also stick to that for a family of 3? Can you give me some tips on how you do it. Unfortunately I am terrible at growing things. I have tried it before and sadly killed everything. If not me then the slugs have got what is left when I tried to plant anything in the garden. Although I do have a huge patch of mint I can't control!

If you do think I should go ahead I would love a few tips on induction which I am planning to do. First how much protein should I reckon on eating in a meal, I find it hard to guess as normally I would only eat a small amount and bulk out with carbs and veggies. I don't eat a huge amount normally my problem is snacking. Also re snacking can you give me any ideas as to how much snacking is ok and snack ideas. I normally eat a lot of snacks mainly biscuits. What should I be aiming for? I guess I need to be careful of my budget on snacks too I can see myself spending too much.

Any advice would be gratefully received even if you think low carb is not for me. Thanks.

hi there and butt in all u want thats what the thread is for

we have all changed our diet to a certain extent and i rarely buy ready made or processed meals, i buy a big butchers pack of meat for approx £45 which contains 5lbs chicken breast, stewing steak, pork chops, mince, sausages which lasts ages and supplement that with veggies, salad and the carby potatoes, pasta and rice for them, i just eat more of the veggies etc

as far as snacks well stick to cheese, chicken winglets, celery with primula, ham (i buy the offcuts).. the best way to keep it cheap is NOT to buy any of the lowcarb treats, they are stupidly expensive and will only affect yr weightloss cos they stall me and lots of other people so just avoid them and stick to natural foods

as for how much protein u eat well there isnt a limit as such so eat as much as u want, as long as u keep to the induction carb amount of 20g thats fine, just make sure u get plenty of fresh stuff

oh and i grow my lettuces in the kitchen in an old plastic mushroom container cos slugs always eat them outside here too

as for whether lowcarb is for u well al i can say is give it a go, stick to it COMPLETELY for 2 weeks and if u get thru induction and feel fine then yes it is for u.. u will have to make the decision to give up your biscuity snacks tho cos they will be a non no for some time

hope that helps but feel free to ask as many questions as u like

    Good morning my lovlies

And welcome MrsXXL. I agree with shykins - give it a go for 2 weeks and see how you get on... you might surprise yourself:) I am doing a different low-carb programme from Atkins, but broadly similar principles and I must say low carb is the only regime that a) I have been able to stick to and b) I have been able to incorporate into my daily life without feeling like it was a hardship, or that I was deprived. Yes, I have the very occasional wobble but nothing serious and I have always been able to keep things on track.

And I say all this as someone who was the world's worst carb addict!:o Honestly? I really haven't missed them - that's amazed me in itself lol. Since going low carb I can eat till I feel full and have stopped feeling constantly hungry between meals and I've stopped craving junk. For health reasons I reckon that in itself has got to be a good thing... plus it's keeping my insulin level in check.

Sweet snacks do have go, unfortunately. But I tend to keep some slices of cheese, cold meats etc for snacking.

So give it a whirl and see how you go. Plus, there are some really helpful and inspiring people on this thread - I've learned so much from them :T

Hope everybody is ok today. I'm just tying up a few loose ends at work today then I have to go home and finish packing. Early start for Cornwall in the morning, so must make sure I get my beauty sleep:D

Shykins - you always have such great ideas. I would never have thought about growing lettuce in the kitchen! My kitchen is like a warzone with building work at the minute, but as soon as that's finished I must give that a go. Just wondering hun - are there particular varieties that are better for indoor growing or does it make no odds?

Right, best get on. Have a good day all

    Much love,
    Sarah xxxx

Have just had a cheese omelette as brunch and some tea.

Chicken mince is defrosting so might make home made burgers and cabbage to go with it and potatoes for those who have them.

DD wants a cookery session later so will let her make what she wants.

Having bought two cardigans for winter yesterday it is nice and sunny today!
