UPDATE - Beware if you have an accident in Disney/Universal/Seaworld etc - some will tell you that they will take care of the bill, GET IT IN WRITTING - and watch out if they send you a cheque that has words like "Full & Final Settlement" on it or the accompanying letter.
You will get more than 1 bill and if they pay you that first bill and you accept the F&F cheque then when the second/thirf/forth etc bill comes, then you accepted that cheque as F&F and they wont pay no more.
IN ANY CASE - with third party claims like these it does not releive you of you responsibility with the hospital/doctors YOU are responsible to pay your medical bills NO ONE ELSE not even insureance companies.C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

polly - you say Norwich, I guess you mean Norwich Union? If so my answer is yes and no!
Yes - in my view NU are THE best travel insurance company EVER in THE WHOLE WORLD!
No - I am not a great fan of "Free" policies by banks and credi card companies. They mean that you are often under insured. There should be a link to a website at least that will give you the T&C's if not call the bank or cc company and a copy of the T&C's should be sent to you. If they wont, GET AN ADDITIONAL POLICY before you find ot the hard way.
And remember me when you come over again - I may need a "red cross parcel" Maynards Wine Gums, Rountrees Fruit Pastiles, Ty-phoo Teabags, all donations greatly received!C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

Brameldi - Great warning - but I will add......
PEOPLE do NOT buy travel insurance from your travel agent.
You gave me some great info that Asda is Norwich Union - Good for Asda using NU - see above - NU are the best as far as I am concerned.
People - buy Asda Travel Insurance!
Seriously - if you look at it from my point of view - I deal with late payers & bad debt - at the moment AXA (at the last count) owe me over $1.2million and over 400 cases - I do NOT have a single Norwich Union case and in seven years doing this job have only ever had about 12 cases (usually patients fault not NU's that I have the account) this means that NU actually settle their claims before the 140 days after discharge when it becomes bad debt. HUGE PAT ON BAC NORWICH UNION! By the way, Fortis (post office) a close second!C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

Many thanks, FH. Have got the T&C, just wondered about having OH's declared conditions in writing really.
Will add the sweeties to the list. You can share tea bags with DS. No marmite?
Wondering where you live in the sunshine state. DS is a dragon-boater in Tampa. There are a few Brits there.

Tanty - First of all - ask your doctor(s) if it is ok for your 12 yr old to travel, no matter what, IC's will not pay anything if anyone is not mdically safe to travel. Once your doctor states it's safe you will be able o shop around. Do not use the internet (apart from finding companies) you need to call them and ask, the website may say this is not covered but that is probably on a standard policy, if you ask them they can add alost anything to a policy, the only problem is at what cost!!!
See MSE Martin's insurance pages - there are some good companies that deal with pre-exist medical conditions (PEMC's) and ask those if you cannot find anything.
At very least, an insurer would cover you with an erxclusion to your childs PEMC's so at least you'd be covered for any non-related injury or illness.C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

Hello,
Wonder if you can help?
Am looking at insurance for a 2 week holiday to Florida - am happy to buy an annual policy if it isn't much more, but am concerned about cover levels.
The issue I have is with personal possessions. I don't have a lot of high value possessions I would take at all but I do want to take my digital SLR. Together with the SLR I have 3 lenses. Am I right in thinking that this counts as a "set" and so therefore the whole lot falls under the valuable item limit of total £300?
I've had a look at the following policies
Aviva policy (cost £100), valuable item limit £400
Post Office (cost £114), valuable item limit £300
Direct Travel Insurance Platinum - (cost £71), valuable item limit £500
TravelInsuranceweb - (cost £34 via Quidco), valuable item limit £250
I think the value of the camera would not be covered by any of those policies - is that normal? Do normal people just not take cameras on holiday?
Also the price of those policies varies greatly. The other items that are covered all seem fairly similar (medical, legal and personal liability)...why would I not go for the cheapest?
Many thanks for any advice you can offer.
