Claim what you are owed.

Options
As HR Admin (Clerk), i have noticed that a lot of soldiers, do not try or do not know how to claim what they are owed.

Incidental Allowance, £5 UK and £10 Overseas per 24 hrs for when on course. Even if the course was a few months back then still bang the claim in, as long as you can prove you went on course.

LSA, when you are away for 9 days or more, starting @ £6.38, depending what level you are on. Check to see if you total is correct as you might be owed some days.

There is also Day subsistance and Night subsistance for when you are put up in a hotel, for courses, posting etc.

The above is only a brief guidance and you should check with your Unit HR Admin. I'm not to sure if the above applies with RAF/RN, but i'm sure someone will help me out.

The problem with the Claim system is that people do not really Know what they are entitled too, With unhelpful Admin Staff (at my present location) doesn't really do much to make people want to claim.

1 quick example, I have just put in a claim for a AT exped Overseas on which i was an instructor.

I have been told you can't now claim for this but you can claim for that.
You must pay me back the £100 put in a new claim then we'll give you £110,

I'm not really bothered about the extra tenner but must I really repay the 100 or is there a way to sort out the paper work.

It doesnt help that JPA is such a pain in the a@@!! Everything used to be so much easier when the PSF staff could direct you...JPA is just a nightmare and often mucks up what I'm entitled to anyway!

Nice to see the AGC are on the ball. Claims on JPA are supposed to be made within 30 days of the event and you need to provide receipts as well. It will be interesting to see how many squaddies ask for receipts in the first place and are organised enough to keep them for the required number of years.

Isn't LSA a HR input on JPA? Shouldn't the UAO be automatically starting it for the guys?

Don't forget HDT or RPOD as it used to be called. Unfortunately our unit have "lost" 3 HDT claims and we are now waiting for the 4th to get processed. Taken 2 years so should get a nice amount back!

And one for the guys (or girls) who have a spouse who is registered as a disabled dependant. I am disabled and registered with my hubby's MCM div as such. We only just found out that we are entitled to a 25% discount on our CILOCT, backdated to the date I was registered disabled. We had to provide proof (I gave a photocopy of a letter confirming DLA) and, as I was disabled before we got married, we are waiting for 7 years worth of rebates back.

Most allowances have been harmonised across the Serivces; that's part of what the J in JPA was about. People should have been issued the Guide to Allowances booklet, which is a noddy guide to the sort of thing you are allowed to claim for. If you've not seen it, there's a copy at the RAF Community website, available here. The guide will point you to the relevant section in the JSP explaining the detail of eligibility etc for any given allowance. Luckily the rafcom site also has a copy of the JSP for reference, here. Looking at the refcom site, I see they've also added a PDF of a series of posters outlining the allowances available in various areas, here.

Interesting fact I heard about the other day (from a 1*) was that the introduction of JPA is saving the military about a third in its expenditure for allowances, subsistance etc.

Basically, this has occured because many people no longer understand what they are entitled to claim for and hence do not claim.

Claims do not HAVE to be submitted within 30 days, this is just recommended.

You do not have to provide receipts for IE, however some units will ask for a written statement on how much you spent, to justify IE.

You do need reciepts for DS and NS

So far i have found that they are getting the receipts, whether they are organised to keep them for two years, well, we will have to wait and see.

True, however if we are not told they are going on course, how do we know?

I guessing you are not a fan of us clerical types?

We have just moved on posting OH tried to find out what he could claim for 2adults 4kids but all you get told is to go on to JPA but surely if you don't know what to claim for how does that help, things change but you only seem to find out by word of mouth.
