Could we do some kind of bookswap thingy?

Hi, I don't know if this has been suggested on here before. I've got a couple of cookery books that I don't need, but there are others that I would like. Is it possible to get some kind of swap-shop going or do you think the postage costs would be too much?

  • I think that would be a brilliant idea!
I've got loads of books that I've read a few times and probably won't use again.
I'm not sure how things like that usually get set up on here, but maybe each person could set up a list of what they're offering and what they would like??

Good idea but there is a website where you can do that with books cds dvds etc but I'm not sure about the trust thing i.e. who sends which book first and what if you don't receive it?
Sorry to be a bit pessimistic but noy sure how it would work...

OK, sorry didn't realise that. Would it be best to delete my original post?

I know you want to swap books so this site is probably not really suitable for you personnally, but it might be useful to other who just want to get rid of book and pick up something at random: https://www.bookcrossing.com

    Hi, There's always Freecycle.

Also look at Apprentice tycoons Amazon book thread (it's on the Ebay section now I think), it gives links to other websites too for selling/buying books. Maybe that's the way to go if you can sell the books you don't want anymore to help finance buying the ones you do.

Soba, we will let this thread stay for the time being, in the hope that no one abuses the trust of the forum and breaks the rules ;) If it appears at any stage that the rules have been breached, then this thread will have to be closed and referred to the abuse team for clarification.

Yes, your suggestion would be going against the purpose stated in the post about not exchanging personal details on the site, so I'm sorry, but I have deleted it and just quoted a small amount here.

I'd be up for this if it could be done within the rules.

In the past I've considered selling the books I no longer read, but I'd much rather know they were going to a good home, if you know what I mean. Also by swapping within a group you have a chance to get to know who's tastes are similar to your own, that can save a lot of time, effort and postal charges.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D
