Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Birmingham Childrens Hospital caring for my tiny and very poorly grandson who was born at 29 weeks. Thanks to them he is getting a little stronger every day.:A:A:A
  • I would sell if i had it too!!
Why does it cost 20k - 30k to run a year??

Running costs are quite high- I'm incurring costs even while waiting for a buyer (not easy to find in a recession). Insurance will be £2,500, marina berth in the UK £5-6000 (even more in the Med if you're lucky enough to find a vacant berth). Annual maintenance costs run about to £9000 or more if any major engine servicing/repair is required.

Then there's the fuel issue- Gordon Brown in his wisdom increased the duty on Marine Diesel this year to bring it line with road diesel. So it costs £1000 to fill up the tank!!! Burns fuel at the rate of 60 litres/hour so a quick weekend hop to the Chanel Islands would cost in excess of £500 in fuel alone. So 10 weekend trips per year = £5000 in diesel.

Thanks Gordon Brown- you have sucessfully killed off what was left of the UK motor boat building industry in fell swoop............

So all-in-all not a cheap pastime and not an option for me to keep it.....unless of of course I win the Lottery sometime soon!
