Just a comment about password-based newspaper competitions -
Surely a newspaper is full of thousands (millions) of words every day, therefore instead of having a single password they should use a method where for online entries they require a word from a certain page / line / word, i.e :
Page 3
Line 12
Word 7
they would only need a database of a few hundred words each day to make it workable, and the web technology so that a page refresh does not give a (registered) user a new P-L-W combination. This would force people to buy their papers.
I know that various editions/regional version of papers are published but I'm sure certain pages remain unchanged...
For postal entries they could stick with the password method.

I wonder if these competions really boost the circulation of newspapers and whether in fact 'password sharing' can impact normal sales? Are online entries allowed just so that more people visit the web sites?
My reasoning here is that boat itself was paid for by Collins Stewart (a huge international investment banking company) who also sponsor the London Boatshow and donated the boat. The competion was run in conjunction with the Daily Mail- who never actually owned the boat.

Effectively the Daily Mail were the promoters of a London Boatshow/Stewart Collins competion- so any additional newspaper sales were a bonus. The Daily Mail didn't have to pay for the boat. All those extra Travel Mail web hits generated just gave more exposure to the Travel Mail website. So we all saw the Travel Mail web adverts and now they have all our e-mail addresses! Clever eh?0 -
Well done, a fabulous win!!!0
