Terrible confession to make: since making my last post here it has occurred to me that I have no idea where my iron actually is right now
and I've got a tidy house!

When I was younger, I rarely ironed. Now, in the same way that I like tea made in a teapot and served in a china mug (not quite as far as cup and saucer), I like my bedlinen ironed. When the children were younger, there was too much else to do and I was too tired. Now I make time.
I do most of the things mentioned - fold from the line etc. Also, I try and iron things before they're dry as this cuts time. I always start with shirts, double bedlinen and work my way through to the easy stuff. Yes, I even iron teatowels these days.0 -
i like to iron in front of the tv ... i work out what i am going to watch and when and the get the ironing board out and keep the remote in easy to reach distance. concentrating on tv programs that i want to watch makes it seem like less of a chore. i also hang everything up (except undies) as i refuse to iron anything straight from the wardrobe.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

I dry and fold as much as possible, and the rest goes into my big "ironing basket" and then I hide it so that I can forget about it:o .
The one household task that I really CANNOT abide. Now whey did you have to remind me of it - I feel guilty now:eek: ."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -
Iron as little as possible but my work clothes, dh work shirts and most of dd's outer clothes needs doing. The plan is to iron twice a week on a Wed and Sun in practice it tends to get done on a Sunday. The way to stop it backing up is not to own to many clothes. DD has about 7 outfits so I have to get it done or she will be naked!!Sorting my life out one day at a time0

The way I organise my ironing is once its dry i put it in the wardrobe and then wear it? Dont actually have an iron in the house
Yes I am a student however I also act as 'house boyfriend' for my fulltime office bound girlfriend and no one has said anything yet0 -
That reminds me, the other way I organise my ironing is:
when looking at new clothes or trying them on in the fitting room, grab a hand full of the material and "scrunch" it as hard as you can for a second or two and let go.
If it's really creased, then that's what it will look like after washing and after being worn for 5 minutes
Then decide if you love it enough to iron it or notworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

I actually think he thought I was going to be upset, when he told me not to do his stuff!! :rotfl: it seems shirts have to have the creases in the side not the front or something like that!
And most oddly, his son is now in the army and is exactly the same, because I found them (father and son) having a conversation over 'how to iron' and
'where the creases' should be!!and they still didn't agree............'in my day'.........

I do iron and always end up waiting until I have a huge pile then moan because its taking me hours lol.
What I aim to do is iron twice a week. Do half the weeks washing then when its all dry iron the lot then wait a few days, wash then iron.
This is going to sound awful but I also only iron the front of my little girls' clothes as I figure they will be creased/dirty before I know it anyway. I also only iron the front of my clothes.
I dont iron all the silly things though like the baby vests, bedding, hankies, undies etc as I dont think these need to be ironed.
I also sort into "people piles" so I iron DD2's clothes (smallest) then DD1's clothes then DH's then mine (all of this is done on setting 2) then anything that needs to be on no. 3 i.e. jeans.
I havent ironed for over a week and so spent nearly 3hrs last night doing it all. Funnily enough the smallest pile of the lot was mine!
Also try and sort out cupboards/drawers so that when its ironed and put away your not undoing all your hard work by trying to cram them all into a small space (I have this problem with DH who still hasnt sorted his clothes out).2 adults and 3 children DD (14), DD (12) & DS (10) :smileyhea and 2 mental beagles.
