I always do the BIG things first then the pile looks so much smaller straight away. Dont iron anything unless it makes you feel better. I never iron sheets but I always iron T towels because I love to open the drawer and see them
how sad !!! But now I have started buying the terry towelling ones so that gets round that
Try and do a good deed every day.

TBH I think life is too short to spend hours standing with a lump of hot metal in your hand smoothing creases out of material:D
I SOOOOO agree! Mr LW does the ironing in our house - the iron, which he already had when I moved in with him, is too heavy for me. He only irons what is absolutely necessary, which is basically shirts and trousers for his work (office dress code is "smart casual"), hankies, and the occasional item of mine (skirt or bandanna scarf usually) that is just too creased to get away with. Ironing is one of his regular Sunday jobs, and he just irons sufficient shirts and trousers for the following week at work.

Peg out carefully, fold, and put in airing cupboard.

OH does all his, he is ex army, and I put the creases in his shirt all wrong! so he told me not to do his, suits me fine!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I do mine Sunday mornings, I do all what I call the straight up and down stuff first, (pillow cases etc) then my t shirts, then the more complicated stuff, for what ever reason I have always done it this way, goodness knows why!
Hey, I know that feeling. OH is also ex army - I do not touch his shirts under any circumstances! I do his T-shirts and jeans when doing mine, but I step away from the shirts. When he's on an ironing marathon, he'll do all the bed linen for me, starched and everything.

  • I only iron things that really need to be ironed..I am very careful how i hang things, putting shirts onto hangers to dry .Which i found helps soo much.
Casual, comfies tend not to be ironed.

I also found that if i left a pile of 'school clothes' when washed. My mum would scoop them up and do those for me ;) So now i get more and more in the pile odd t shirt here and there.

  • Because I hate ironing so much, and LOATHE putting it away, I force myself to iron for 10-15 minutes once a week. When I used to leave it it took me 2-3 hours once a month and I used to loose the will to live!

I fold it up and put it away and only iron it when I am going to wear it :p

Have done this for years. Occasionally I will iron a load of t-shirts for work in one go, but other than that, 5 minute job each morning.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I have just emptied my ironing basket completey for the first time this year!!! Ideally I try to iron as a load comes off the line, but often time available runs out, which is how the backlog builds up. Great in winter as the tumble dryer means less ironing needed!
I never iron bedding, just fold and put in airing cupboard, relying on anything put on top to flatten.
I think the getting rid of excess clothing would help, but when I run out of ironed clothes I need the surplus if you see what I mean!
In the school holidays I can usually keep pace, but in term time there's never enough time to get it all done.
    Resolution:
    Think twice before spending anything!

I use an airer to dry my clothes so they dry flatish, they are then folded into the basket.....

i take things out of the washing machine as soon as the wash is finished, and carefully hang them on the clothes horse, stretched out to help get rid of the creases.
when i take the stuff off the clothes horse, it goes into two piles - ironing & non-ironing.
the non-ironing stuff gets put away straight away, and the stuff that needs ironed stays neatly folded until i can be bothered, but at least its not a huge mountain as most of the clothes have been put away already!! :D

i only iron trousers, skirts, dresses and shirts - i would never iron t-shirt / casual tops, and most certainly not bedclothes!! (although they do look lovely ironed i must say!!) so that keeps my ironing to a minimum.

Also, i do mine and OH does his (he hardly irons anything!! )

I don't see the point of ironing in huge batches, it only gets crumpled again once it's in the drawer. I put everything away unironed, then each morning (only if it really, really needs it, mind!) quickly waft the iron in the general direction of the clothes. Takes two minutes, if that.
Only exception is my daughters school uniform, I can't stand taking her to school looking crumpled!
