Fold clothes carefully once they're dry, smoothing creases out as much as possible, and place neatly in ironing basket.

When you've run out of clothes to wear, remove from ironing basket and put on.

I also get my OH to do ours; he's a neat freak.

He does it once a week, usually a wednesday evening.

    I dont iron

Give a shake and fold asap when it comes off of the line, if you peg it up properly then in theory it should dry ok.

Most of the kids things dont need it anyway and we live in jeans a t-shirts, we hang the jeans upside down so the legs dont get creased.

I really would prefer everything to be crisply ironed. It 'finishes' clothes, somehow, when they're ironed.

But I hate ironing, and so I divert my eyes from the towering, wobbling pile.

Peg out carefully, fold, and put in airing cupboard.

OH does all his, he is ex army, and I put the creases in his shirt all wrong! so he told me not to do his, suits me fine!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I do mine Sunday mornings, I do all what I call the straight up and down stuff first, (pillow cases etc) then my t shirts, then the more complicated stuff, for what ever reason I have always done it this way, goodness knows why!

I decide what really 'needs' ironing and forget the rest. Most casual clothes don't need ironing, so long as they are hung out promptly and correctly and brought in and folded right away. Stuff that does need it gets ironed the day it's washed, usually while I'm watching TV/on the phone/making the tea. Admittedly, though, I don't have kids.

When we were younger smarts and school stuff got ironed, nothing else. After my mum got ill ironing became my responsibility, I was 8 or 9 at the time. I quickly decided that work and school stuff got ironed, if anyone wanted anything else ironing they knew where all the equipment was and they could do it themselves!
IMHO 8 or 9 years is fine for kids doing ironing as a chore, so long as they are tall enough and responsible enough for it to be safe, and as long as there is an adult about. I used to get £1 per week to do the ironing for a family of six, and I thought I was getting a great deal :rotfl:

I smooth everything off the line that can be, which then gets put away and then have a wicker linen basket with a lid in the corner of the kitchen for anything that has to be ironed. I do the basket about once a week.

    Hi Smiley,

This is how I keep my ironing under control:

    1. Went through EVERY SINGLE ITEM OF CLOTHING I owned and threw out / ebayed / chazzer-shopped anything I had not worn in the last 12 months. My partner helped me to do this (with a little bit too much relish, I thought!!! LOL)

This reduced my ironing pile by 90%!!!

    2. Wash in like batches (using the mini-load button on the washer) eg Work shirts / t shirts / jeans / bedding / underwear

    3. Dry on the line / airer as much as possible, then a 10 minute blast in the tumble to get rid of most of the creases - you can save up the batches and do two / three at a time

    4. Do ALL ironing whilst watching your fave TV programme / catching up on all the things you recorded using the SKY+ box! You'll be amazed how much you can get done without even thinking about it. I did 4 hours the other night and never flinched!

    5. Sunday mornings with the Archers Omnibus and a cafetiere of your fave coffee.

    6. Alternatively, don't iron anything that doesn't leave the house OR pay someone else to do it - Life's too short!

    God, I'm such a Queen!!!!!!:rotfl:
