I iron too when I need to do it always at the last min too. I dont smoke or drink and rarely go out other than working long hours and doing the household chores plus running the kids all over the place playing taxi! My treat is to get the ironing done for me it costs £15 every 2-3 wks with an ironing lady we use, thats my enjoyment /treat and gives me my deserving ME time....(the kids stuff I do as & when its needed)

I honestly never iron anything. Folding straight out of the dryer/ off the line works wonders, as does making sure that whatever you hang up to dry is flat.

With me, DH, 2 grubby kids and another due which means cloth nappies soon, I really don't want to iron. My Mum hates it though :rotfl:

ok I know will probally got told off for this but I tumble dry everything  came from when I worked fulltime, had 3 kids + 3 stepkids , hubby and me and never had time to hang cloths out and wait for them to dry.

I only iron as we need stuff for 3 reasons:

    1. Kids take clothes out of wardrobe , decide not to wear them and they end up on floor.
    2. I cannot stand more than a few minutes to iron.
    3 I HATE IRONING :p

it had to be invented by a man , it is evil

p.s. I would add I used to like ironing, would do it for hours. Then I realised the error of my ways lol

Thanks guys for your insights. I am definetley going to try the folding & putting away straight from the TD route.
Mummy to four do not know how u do it. Unfortunatley floor space is not ideal as we have a gold ret x lab who moults everywhere, so unable to put clothes out anywhere really. I wish I could as I thinkit would save us a bit but at least I have a condenser dryer so keeps pour rooms nice & warm in winter:D . So not os but money saving in another way:p .

  • Hi Kal25:hello:

I hate ironing and dread looking at the laundry baskets:eek: , I've joined the flylady thread this week, to help keep on top of housework and ironing and asked similar question about ironing and pretty much received the same answers.

How about we declare a statement of laundry despair:rotfl: (S.O.L.D.) and pledge to amend our ways:p ,post our sucesses:D and failures  and support each other to rid our homes of the mountians of laundry.:T

Hi I am also a family of five and also only do 2 loads a week of clothes 1 x coloureds and 1 x whites - then sheets, bedding and towels.

Have you thought of hanging some stuff on coathangers straight from machine.

Good idea to do pants, socks, towels together.

I also find that some clothes are filed in laundry basket coz dd8 and dd9 can't be a***d to put stuff away that I've put on their beds......

I really have to be in the mood and I do iron all 15 school shirts and PE stuff on a Sunday night and play alittle mind game which involves putting stuff that is easy to iron on my pile and just going for it whilst the iron is on.I an occasionally get 2 days out of school shorts for dd9 and 2 days out of polo shirt for ds4 but otherwise I am tight and tell them to put the same play clothes on after school for a few nights running - chav but cheap.

Thanks fiddling flower petals, I think we should definetley do that. I have done 2 loads today and I think I only have about 5 items that I thought I could not get away without ironing- they will b done tomorrow.
Annielouise- I do not understand where all the clothes come from as the majority of the time my lads stay in uniform till bedtime. Which is fine by me as it should equal less washing but somehow doesn't:rolleyes: .

  • I wash and dry then sort into individual persons clothes piles, give that pile to the person to put away (even my 4 year old will put away) I do badger and insist its put away straight away. Then there is no ironing hanging around in baskets/piles its all away and tidy and then we iron as we wear. Family of 4. I don't know how people find time in their week to spend hours ironing but I certainly take my hat off to them.

I think I will have to try this out. It is not that the kids r lazy as such just I find it easier to do things myself rather than spend 10 mins [STRIKE]ranting[/STRIKE] talking to myself. However, with the 6week hols coming up I think will be agood time to get them in training.:T
