I am a takeaway driver I wouldn't dream of doing anything to any one's food in fact I am very clean, clean car every week, I also keep insulated bag ona plastic cover to protect car seat. I make sure food is in right, occasionally food in bags and an outer bag plus insulator bag fall out I always let customer handle if say a bag of chips comes out of the plastic bag which is wrapped up in a paper bag anyhow

I am always talkative to customers of course tips are nice, all my tips pay for car to run, which doesn't always cover a night therefore I end up paying for it

If customers tipped just a small amount, it all adds up. Dont compare other deliveries like Tescos with takeway or a postman, as you run you own car and pay petrol with no help on a very basic pay and so much per delivery. There is also a chance you get your car damaaged etc

A related question: I've just done my first home delivery order (in order to take the £15 off offer from Waitrose) and was wondering if when they say "deliver to the door" do they mean the house maindoor downstairs or can I expect them to deliver to my 3rd floor flat?

I'm 32 stairs /4 landings /two floors up in a traditional tenement with no lift, and Tesco and Sainsburys both offer to deliver to my kitchen, but I unload in the hall.

we don't have waitrose here though!

Tip a delivery driver? Ghad, no. I don't tip people for scanning my stuff through the checkout, either.

I wouldn't sit in my office and expect a tip everytime I did a web update.
  • Off topic, but have any of you heard of the recent cases of 2 delivery drivers in the York area suing customers for tripping on drives?

I saw something on the news about a Tesco's delivery driver suing for being "tipped" on someones drive - I'm not sure where they would stand on this (sic) as they are supposed to be working and I dont think a customers residence has to comply with the Health and Safety act. They should be covered by their own company insurance.

they do get paid dreadfully, but i would not tip...to be honest, i am glad that i have never felt obliged to do so and would probably switch to another supermarket if i felt a driver was expecting it. i have never tipped couriers and the closest i would come to it is the postie at christmas but there are so many on the round now that i would not even know where to start!

    Never eat yellow snow

Never buy a mermaid a pair of tights
