Great Cheap Glasses Hunt

Hi
Has anyone used the MoneySavingExpert discount with the Selectspecs.com online glasses provider and not yet received their order? From what I have just read below it looks like I have been duped like others.
I bought rimless glasses from selectspecs about a year ago for £65 ( as I have a high perscrition ) they were ok - took 3 weeks to arrive , but the production quality was not great ( ends of screws sticking out - not trimmed or capped ) , and the lenses were very thick ( but maybe that was because I was being cheap and didnt want to pay twice as much for super thin lenses .
but I just bought a new pair from GlassesCrafter and I'm really happy with them , some people have said they wasnt happy with the quality of the cheapest glasses they got from there but I went for the £46 rimless .
£85 all together with super thin lenses , much thinner than the selectspecs ones and feels like half the weight ( would've cost me well over £200 at places like specsavers ) , took 2 weeks to arrive from China , and excellent quality frame work0 -
How long should it take Selectspecs to respond to a sales query? I have a question about buying some glasses from them and the only way I could get in touch with them was to i) have an account with them on their website and ii) send them a message through a helpdesk ticketing system.
I sent them a message with my sales question early on Wednesday morning and have yet to receive a response.
It's already left me uneasy that, if they can treat a potential customer oozing buying signals like this, how do they treat existing customers? Totally perplexing! The only thing that's keeping me interested at the moment is the price.0 -
I am a college student. I need suggestions from you guys. Can anyone give me any information on ordering? My older pair is awfully broken last week and I have been blinding all the whole week. I saw Coastal Contacts online recently and I really like one pair they offer which I haven't seen in my hometown. Do you often order on line? Where do you usually go? When do you usually change for another one? The most important is that how much does one pair costs you? As I am a student, I can't afford that much. What should I pay attention to if order online? BTW, have you ordered from them, how about the quality and service from them? Please be assured that I am not a worker from CC to do a questionnaire survey. I really need help from you before my ordering. I want to make full use of mine money. Thanks in advance for your kind help!0

Firstly it's a Canadian company which means you may be subject to VAT and/or customs charges on anything you import from them. Secondly, you need glasses now, why wait for an overseas supplier? By all means buy a fashionable pair but buy a cheap pair to wear in the meantime. As for the company themselves, I can't comment having never heard of them.0

Do NOT use exlusive eyes. They repeatedly assured us that Specs would be ready for our wedding, as I am very light sensitive, and then failed to deliver. They've taken our money and not cared whether they can provide the service in time or not. I shall be seeking legal action.Married in Vegas - 25th October 2011!

Finally took the plunge and ordered varifocals from Spex4less
Absolutely brilliant service
Order placed on 18th May, glasses arrived on the 26th May.
All for only £114 including transition lenses.
My previous glasses were twice this price.
Highly recommend.0 -
Hi All, I took the plunge and ordered varifocals from 39dollarglasses.com in the State's on 25th Sept. As far as varifocals go, the price was amazing and online order form easy to complete. Total bill Inc postage was 103 dollars (64ish quid). It's 9th October and wife has texted me to say a parcel tried to be delivered today but there's £20.78 to pay in customs duty. As i won't be home'till the weekend, i can't confirm the quality or accuracy of the order but this amount of duty seems excessive on a spend of 64 quid. Bear this in mind if buying from abroad.0

Well smudger, there's 20% VAT to pay so that's £12.80. Then the Royal Mail charge an £8 administration fee for dealing with the Customs duties on your behalf. Add the two figures together and that's more or less £20.78.0
