  • I had an Aldi leaflet magazine through yesterday, and in the back they're offering glasses for £2.99. Does anyone have any experience of these? Seems extremely cheap for glasses.

    Hi,

Just bought a pair of glasses from ExclusiveEyes.co.uk and I must say I am thrilled with them. I received the glasses in 4 days and their customer service is excellent. Specsavers quoted me £120 and I got a better pair for just about £40. Certainly worth a try!!

You said the same about Eyeexperts - your companies are they?

    Hello all

Just a bit of advice really. I'm about to purchase a pair of rimless glasses from Select Specs but can't decide between the 1.6 or 1.67 thin lenses (my prescription is -2.00 in one eye and -2.50 in the other). The thinner 1.67 lenses are £35 more (still would work ot much cheaper than the High Street) but I was just wondering if anyone could tell me whether I really need the 1.67 lenses or whether the 1.6 lenses would be thin enough?

For your prescription a 1.60 index lens should be fine. The only reason you might want a higher index lens is if your frame is very large (think retro seventies/eighties influenced frames). Most modern frames are quite small and you'll be fine with a 1.60 index lens.
  • Has anyone noticed that several of the 'spectacles on line' sites have gone completely ?. Goggles4u and Glassesdirect ? I think it was Glassesdirect aplogised for having to close down and that all orders would be honoured and referred people to the Moneysavingexpert site. Whats that all about ?- they seemed to indicate that more than one site has had to close - same company owning differently names sites ? I can't find that message anymore. I do hope they are not being chased off the internet by big businesses.

Anyone got any information on this ?
  • Glassesdirect haven't closed down,I received 2 pairs of specs from them a couple of days ago.The site is still up and running too:j

They haven't closed down thankfully, but they are a lot less competitive than they used to be. I have bought several pairs from them in the past however on looking for specs today glassesdirect are almost double the price for similar specs from selectspecs. Even if i add my "personal" 40% off code from glassesdirect i am still looking at a cost of £73.80 vs £43.95 for very similar photochromic single vision specs. Guess i know where i will be buying from this time around.

Just had a woeful experience with them.

Ordered 2 pairs on 29 Jan, nothing for 3 weeks, then one faulty pair arrived. Been on the phone every day this week, now 'promised' for delivery tomorrow or refund.

I'm really disappointed, as I've used them in the past and they've always ben very good. I hope this is a one off, but I won't be using them again.

Just my experience, perhaps others have had a good experience recently?
