Anyone know anything about the Glasses Shop.

    glassesshop.com

Very snazzy looking specs at reasonable prices but no reviews anywhere.

    Are they new?

I believe it is a reliable place for buying eyeglasses, especially prescription glasses.

Just ordered mine from glassesshop.com, in addition, I feel greatly content with their customer service.

That'll be why four of your five posts have been promoting them (I'm guessing the first one was an attempt to get past the URI moderation!)

  • All I can say is avoid SelectSpecs like the plague.

They tell you that cheap glasses are shipped from Hong Kong but they say "3-7 days" is likely, then no update at all, and when I complained they said they'd look into it, but no reply. The glasses arrived over a month after ordering and were so wrong it was laughable - 7mm-thick bottletops on the wrong frames. They have no phone number on the site either. Now have to try to get a refund from these shysters.

All I can say is you get what you pay for! Should've gone to... (fill in with your choice of optician)
  • Hmm. I've bought my specs online a number of times now and it took a bit of research before I settled on one company that has provided me with the best of service.

I, too, have noticed a huge amount of new sites opening up selling glasses online - at very competetive prices. Having spent many years in Customer Services management, I can tell you that you need to look for a company that will promise what it says it will and match that with great customer service.

My Number One factor is a company that has a phone number on it's front page - and is answered by UK staff. I wouldn't settle for a company that only corresponds by email, citing expenses as it's reason for not having trained staff on the end of a telephone. It's also imperavtive to me that I can discuss my requirements with them.

You will generally get what you pay for (not just with specs, either). Call up and speak to any of these online companies and guage for yourself if you are happy with the support they can/will give you. Some of the newer ones don't even have optically trained staff!

Look for an online company that has a track record. One that's been around for a while. They are your eyes - don't take any chances!

I use a site that's mentioned on MSE in a very good light on a regular basis. Check out feedback on MSE as a minimum. Also - check a site out for reviews on Google to get a feel for other customers' experiences. Do your research and don't get fobbed off. I can pm anyone who needs the website I use if they want me to.

Lastly - use your common sense. Be clear with what you expect and make sure it can be given to you without any 'hidden surprises'!

  • Hi

Has anyone used the MoneySavingExpert discount with the Selectspecs.com online glasses provider and not yet received their order? From what I have just read below it looks like I have been duped like others.

I ordered a pair of Oakleys in the sale on 21 January, the expiry date of the MSE discount. Progress has stayed stubbornly on frames 'ordered' and 'arrived' on 22 January but nothing since then to show progress on the lenses and delivery of my glasses! I did not ask for anything fancy, I am standard prescription and just took the standard package with anti-glare etc.

The alarm bells started ringing when only one confirmation email generated, no online telephone support and an email I have sent to the customer care team on Friday at midday has still not been replied to. This is starting to seem alarmingly like the pattern other posters have experienced with dodgy online glasses providers. As this deal was arranged by moneysavingexpert it did not occur to me to consider the company wasn't legit!
  • I was unhappy at the quality of my glasses and the service at Specsavers. First I took out the £75 deal with two pairs of glasses and qaulity of specs was not good. Secondly I was at the Clacton branch with my Mum and they made me a granny glasses meaning I had two pairs and had to swap between the two, unfair. So I will get an eyetest done and take trade elsewhere.

Hi BexP, do you have an order number, I can chase this for you.

Emails are usually replied to within 1-3 working days so a member should reply to you on Monday.
