I think my local butcher might go that way too - he's only recently taken over the place but the last time I went in there he hardly had any meat. He's a bit of a misery guts too! I'd better go there while I can hadn't I?

I'm going to try to find some recipes for trotters - I don't think my girls would eat them if I just served them up whole. don't think i'd be so keen myself to be honest...

I was thinking of buying a head of a pig. Having watched Giles coren and sue perkins eat one on supersizers go... Mr Weezl is up for it too!

    Carrie B I won't show him the tom parker-bowles bit yet!

Penny-Pincher!! Hiya, :D I think curries with lentils are higher in protein than those with chick peas, But I'll do more redsearch and get back to you....What a shame about the spinach, that's such a good super-food.

I'm ever so sorry every one, but I think my brain was a bit slow when I did the index! A gentle friend has PMd to say which ones don't work;), and I shall sort those out tomorrow morning, when my brain is a bit better!

Ok a recipe from heaven from me...sorry weel as I know its out of budget for you as contains bacon but...make potatoe bread (brown!), fry bacon, butter bread (lightly if on SW as a SPECIAL trauma day treat!) and put marmalade on (own made is best!) and then put hot, crispy bacon in and eat! The bacon melts the marmalade & butter which compliments the crispy bacon. Heaven. :) Costings? umm no idea but whatever it is its worth every penny and the pig was a delicious happy pig so all good although a tad more expensive than the unhappy pig would be! Havent had time to do the pate swdising but will post try tom or at weekend as have a free one so more time!

me too, sue is the best!

Growing a family, have you got any raspberry bushes locally? A tea made with the leaves might help the baby along? x

ISOM your sandwich sounds heavenly :D when are we going to flirt with your butcher for scraps of odd offal?

still no luck on cheap compost, Cardiff council have stopped selling it for about a year til they've finished building work, and my freecycle ad came to nowt. Will have to get my thinking cap on!

Weezl I am more than happy for you to flirt with the butcher on Sat! I look forward to watching you in flirtaiou "got a spare pig head me lovely" action BUT I can tell you now I'm not eating it or pigs anus for that matter! Clearly you & Mr Weezl are well matched...was going to say boinkers the pair of you but then realised that that sounded almost as wrong as your fanny craddock comment!

Okey dokey, now I was going to start a new thread but I'm glued on this one at the moment and am desperate to live very very cheaply over the next week (at least!). I've got £10 to last me, food-wise, till Tuesday so shouldn't be a problem for you lot, but I'm struggling for ideas. There's me and OH and 3 kids, although one is 16 and eats more than me.

    I have:

14 chicken breasts (Jeez, sick of chicken since OH found out about his high chorlesterol...)
    12 sausages
10 lamb chops flavoured with Morrocan stuff (frozen)
    1/2 bag of onion rings
    Bag frozen peas
    Bag frozen brussels (sp?)
    Jar of jerk paste
1/2 jar of Pataks tikka masala paste
1/2 jar of Pakaks korma paste
practially every herb and spice there is

    Help?
