Wow... Weezl... I cant believe I havent seen this thread till now
Actually things have been rather hectic at home the past few months, so I haven't had the "online time" recently.
Good Luck Weezl...
I am routing for ya... and hope to be able to participate a little more on this one0 -
In one of today's posts you suggested someone post their inventory, is there a special thread for this. There are some things in my freezer that pre date the ark, I'd love other people's suggestions for using my stockpiles. Just not sure where to post.
thanksEat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0 -

Weezl you are BAD telling the world about the butcher (and before anyone goes all mills & boon NO!)! In way of developing skills we could all possibly go for a jolly to see him this Sat and you can ask yourself with me encouraging you on the sidelines and I'll treat you to a cuppa as a reward? Rain is forecast again so looks like digging out...
Bob youve made my day! Guess what I'm making tonight!! Yahoooo! Brown potato bread here I come!
Queen of string storecup challenge is great and they can conjure all sorts out of virtually nowt!! Let us know how you get on! Must look up the lentil pate recipe as suspect it will be a diet tweakable one!
Have a good day all! Hope you are ok without AM Weezl...let me know if you want me to pop the pate in later - text me if you do!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
just wanted to say thank you for such an inspirational and interesting thread
one thing and hope i'm not playing devils avocadobut what happens if you "really" fancy something, like erm steak or trout or something?
the challenges i seem to face is when we see something nice being cooked on tv and end up buying things which are out of our normal spending plan for a meal. eg something where i mixed mozzarella with crab and wrapped it with salmon, pan fried to seal and served with a wasabi dip. delicious but it didn't fit that weeks budget!
Hello CoD, I love a bit of devil's avocado;)
well that's a very interesting thought! I think you're absolutely right,:D and I also think that food programmes have changed a lot too, and are now much more like adverts!
No, bear with me, I know it sounds a bit strange, but even the way that the colour is enhanced and saturated on 'the F word' and 'Jamie at home' when food is in the shot, the colours are so bright it's unreal!
Also it feels like the chef's have the ear of the supermarket, and are motivated to get us to spend money in this way. Jamie said the other day 'I honestly don't know why anyone would bother to stand and make puff pastry or filo pastry.' A trained chef! Then there's Delia's how to cheat... Say no more!:D
So I think we are seduced by the words and the colours into thinking, 'oh yes!, my life is incomplete without seared pigeon breast in a rosemary jus' and by the glamorousness of the chefs. We see their lovely homes, their beautiful kids. Subliminally absorb the message, if I cook like you and eat like you I can have a life like yours...
It feels just like the way that programmes like '10 years younger' and the whole tranche of women's magazines are there to tap into our insecurities and sell us a lifestyle we don't need or want...... 'Ah yes, £7000 worth of cosmetic dentistry, then I will be truely happy!':D
We live in a world which constantly invites us to not feel content with what we have.
I'm not being scathing here about anyone but me, I'm talking about what I feel happens in me, and I resent it!:o
And so it is very powerful and seductive I think. I notice that me and Mr Weezl do get cravings for certain things after watching TV. Fortunately we have our dinner about 6.30/7 most evenings so are usually happily full by the time Gordon shares his magic!
how do we keep the cravings at bay? A very good question.;) Sometimes my internal approach is to add up the costs of all the (usually protein) items that Jamie is putting in the meal, parma ham, parmesan, cream, white wine, fontina cheese, olive oil, eggs, all of these usually go into just one dish. :eek:I try to mentally calculate what it would cost to replicate. Then I think, so it would be really nice, but is that what I want to do with my money!?
My most motivating thing was when I used Martin's demotivator tool, and put in the difference between what I used to spend on food, and what I spend now, and how many extra years I'd have to work to afford it (the old way). And those extra 8 years!!!!!!! :eek:seem so much more desirable.
Usually.
Although the way you described that salmon thing's got me salivating.:D
nomnomnom.
Anyway, long answer over. Just my twopennorth, what do others think? I'll be intrigued to know
sorry CoD, d'you wish you hadn't asked?
Love from ranty Weezl x

january grocery challenge, feed 4 of us for £400 -
We were watching a programme where a leather jacket was £400.
'Weezl could live for nearly a year on that', said mr moany. It really put things into perspective. There was a Gok programme where a stylist was enthusing over a bag that cost £1,200. We would get so much use from it that it was a bargain. What a nonsense0 -
Absolutely agree with e verything you said there weezl!
