re: tinned tuna -- none of the family will eat it in oil. I can't stand the texture if the oil's left with it (eta: to the point I have to rinse it, which makes it almost impossible to use!), and no-one else likes the tastedidn't realise there was such a huge difference between the 2 though
eta: the extra sodium doesn't actually worry me as much as the drop in everything else. the only time I ever get the salt out is for making bread.... if I didn't do that once in a blue moon I wouldn't even have salt in the house !!!!!!!!!!!!!Cheryl0 -
Hope this isn't too dull and geeky...
There aint no such thing!
Avocet, were we seperated at birth?
Fascinating stuff. All those folk choosing tuna in brine or spring water for healthy eating reasons! When the truth is very different....
Do you use 'recipecal' and tap your ingredients into there?
moneydribbler, hello and a very warm welcome. We'll help with your meal planning! Just post your inventory and we can all have a challenge to help feed you!;)
munchki, I wonder whether any fans of foraging who live near you may have done a blog on what's to be had locally? Have you tried tapping in 'wild food in xxxxxx' or 'foraging in xxxxxx' and see what google has to say?
I think it would make an excellent addition to freecycle, if people set up local groups, and by clicking on a map you could see where other foragers had posted info about crops of blackberries etc...
zoegirl, thanks for asking your mum, I'll be intrigued! Butter has risen from 60p per 250g 18 months ago to a minimum of 85p a pat here. Which is a hike, but not as bad as others we've seen. Rice went up from 42p a kilo to 96p a kilo overnight at one point  but thankfully (at asda, but not tesco) is back down to 56p. How are things price-wise with you?

wonders if that's what I did wrong last night -- didn't read the tin, but assumed it was the same as the much more expensive sachets
Dove yeast (in the orange packets) is the same yeast as the sachets but about half the price (and less than the Allinsons tubs too, per kg.) T's sell it, don't think S's does, not sure about A or M. Lakeland sell it too, I think.

Hi folks,
After lurking on OS for around 2 years (!!!!!!) I have finally decided to take the plunge and post. Guess who inspired my username.....!
Weezl74, just wanted to say that I have followed both threads since the very beginning and you truly are an inspiration."Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

Ended up having two of the spinach pastries for breakfast! - 16p
And another one for snack - 8p
Small portion of red lentil curry & rice for lunch - 20pish?
Cereal bar this afternoon - 6p
Tea - spaghetti with spinach & ricotta sauce - about 12p
Yoghurt lolly - 6p
Total for day - 68p
Saw an interesting liver recipe with spinach & sultanas here - http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/511691 - thought it could be converted to a cheaper version, maybe leaving out/ replacing the pine nuts?
Spinach, spinach, spinach.... just call me Popeye...
OK slight change as I decided to try the liver recipe - just made it without the pine nuts, although I can see something crunchy would make a difference - was very nice indeed! Approx cost 25p for liver, 10p spinach, 2p garlic, 2p sultanas (actually I used currants), few pence for other bits and bobs, lets say 45p, making total for the day 99p!
Got some wholemeal flour on the way home too to make muffins (some savoury, some sweet I think).. will report back on recipes etc later!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -

ETA: Just checked T website -- have never seen the Doves one before, but it's actually 11p dearer than the Allison one so I probably wouldn't have picked it up had I been in there when I was looking for some anywayCheryl0
