Been a good day here today!:D

I took a bag of frozen steak mince that I had lurking in the freezer and added the leftover peas, carrots and a tin of green beans and some onion, then thought I would try the red lentil idea....wow, cant believe the diff. Made a cottage pie, had leftover mash from the weekend and still have enough of the meat mixture tucked away in the freezer to do another one at a later date, just will have to add mash on the day:j Also had a few apples and some blackberries from our picking the other day so through them in the pan added a bit of sugar and stewed them and popped two little bags in the freezer. Finally went out and picked a lot of the green toms, got prob about 8ish lbs worth now all sitting nicely on the window sill.:j Going to let the other ones on the plants for a bit longer and see if they get a bit bigger. I am ging to try my hand at roasting them with some red chillies, onions and maybe some peppers ( have to get some) and then pop them in the freezer as well. To be honest not sure what to do with them after but sure I will experiment when the time comes.

Really want to go out and get more berries but will have to see what DH wants to do one evening this week. Spk to my boss this morning and he said his next batch of apples should be ready very soon so has told me i can have all I want in a week or two:T

regarding second hand furniture, boss was re-doing his house and had this huge solid mahogonay piece of furniture. It resembles a two piece welsh dresser thing. It was in his bathroom!! It is all intricately carved with spindle and original mirror and positively gorgeous! Unfortunately it has a hole cut in the top where the sink once was however DH says he will go and get a piece of mahagony and replace the top. Going to go in our dining room when it is redone. Boss was just going to throw it on the fire:eek: Cant wait to get the dining room done now!!

Hope everyone has had a wonderful day thus far and an even better evening!

Hugs and :coffee: of tea all around!

    kath xx

I do get a few looks from people of all ages when out with it, but it makes life sooooo much easier for me that I really don't care!!

I looked at the "funkier" designs, but (1) it had to be stable enough for bus rides, and (2) if I were to tow one that were heavy it would still wreck my back as much as carrying shopping bags becuase of the slightly twisted posture you have to assume to do so :o

If getting one would make life easier for you, then go for it -- and if the family complain give them a shopping list and just enough money for what you want (else in my experience they buy dearer alternatives or small but expensive "treats") and let them do the walk for the shopping a few times! Bet they'd soon change their minds

caught mine in one of the local supermarkets one day last week -- and made him put back the latest in a line of Whoopsie! he'd picked up that I wouldn't have bothered with

A few weeks back I picked up 3 trays of pork steaks (8 in each and down to £3/tray), and still have more than 2 trays worth in my full freezers.

Hubby had picked up a tray of 4 pork steaks with a small sachet of some type of sauce -- down to a not-such-a-bargain price of £3. Apparently thought I could freeze them, so I pointed out not to politely the freezers were full and I already had a load that had cost me half that price !!! He hasn't brought anything home since ;)

glad you liked the site, I usually end up spending more than I intend too! I might try and cost it all up next year (inspired by all the frugality on here) to see JUST how much I spend and save

My mum (67) has that 4 wheeled "wally trolley" its brill.. she fills it to the brim then has a bungy cord to hold the lid down so it doesn't blow up in the wind, which also goes through the extra carrier bag handles when she has got carried away :rotfl:

You should live out here -you see teenager doing mums shop with trolleys -you get strange looks if you are carrying bags out here :p

I think the 4 wheeled ones are great... Im planning on having one when we move back to the uk..im 36 and I don't care :rotfl:

    Hi our Weezl

Re calories a woman needs...I'm no expert...but have a vague memory that the average woman needs 2,000 per day.....so if thats the case and t'Internet is right that Fergus/Fergalita needs 200 per day - then that would mean you need 2,200 per day between the two of you.

Like I said - I've no idea whats what in pregnancies - because I've never had children - so I've no idea what happens to needs/appetite then...other posters would be better able than me to answer that one.

I would think that typical Fergus-is-now-here day means you had 400 less calories than you two needed as far as I can see.

I think the body has a wisdom of its own - provided one hasnt got into the habit of ignoring it (as many people have). So what you could do is "ask your body" in effect and have a "listen" - as in eat what you think might be a suitable amount at a mealtime and then wait 20 minutes for your body to digest it and see what you feel like about maybe having a bit more to eat.

In my being very good days I try to operate on that basis - if I would still eat something else as I feel honestly hungry (even if it were something pretty "basic" like a piece of toast) - then I reckon my body needs a bit more. If I would pass up the basic food - but would be tempted by a bit of chocolate cake - then thats not "real" hunger and I would try to deny myself it (might not succeed - but I would know my body didnt really require anything more IYSWIM).

Having said that - my suspicion is that you are not quite eating enough. Ask Fergus/Fergalita what they think....yes...I AM being serious.:D
