Re your query on the room with boiler in - I've not had kids - but why let that stop me putting my two pennorth in?:D It sounds like logical sense to me - being as how I understand its pretty darn tiring to get through t'babyhood stage....so every little bit of saving of effort and all that. Just think of it as an exercise in "time and motion".....there,,,,knew I'd think of a way to put it that would suit the Inner Geek......of course I wouldnt dream of doing anything like a time and motion study on my home.....much.......says she instantly thinking of 2 kitchen wall cupboard doors that open the wrong way from t'time and motion viewpoint!!!!

A room with a boiler in could get a bit warm come the summer (summer....what summer?) too from t'point of view of sleeping in it.

I don't have children, so you can feel free to ignore me, but I think its a good idea and should I find myself in a similar situation, may even steal the idea and claim it as my own (except in front of my mum coz she read the forums too). I would have thought it very practical for the aforementioned mishaps, and as CW18 says, blots and gates can be implemented for curiousity related risks.

Ceridwen - I have a cupboard or two that open the wrong way, but we're renting, so I just have to live with the annoyance...grrrr

    Hiya ceridwen ;),

Interesting thoughts about the food inflation. I shall continue to ponder it.... The maths may be a little scary, but I'll research as best I can!

At the moment, my response to food price inflation has been to 'meal hop and swap' according to what's gone up or down in price. This way what's in season can sometimes compensate for what's gone up in price...:j

An example, in Feb 08, 1kg smartprice rice was 42p in Asda. By June 08 it had risen to a whopping 96p, and now is back down to 76p.

    Bad times.

At the same time, 2.5 kg potatoes went fron £1.30 to 73p, where they have stayed. Spaghetti got better too, halving it's price from 43p to 22p per 500g pack.

    Good times.

So, I started trying to plan meals around pasta and potatoes a bit more, while eeking out my rice stockpile.:D

It does occur to me that we can only do this type of compensation for so long.

If it is possible, I'd like to keep trying for a bit, because there must be families all over the uk who are hit by food price increases and just don't have the means to just up the budget in line with inflation. I'd like to see if it's possible. But if not, I will happily increase in line with inflation....Just as soon as I've worked out what it is!!!!

Hope all that make sense and doesn't sound unreasonably stubborn! If it does, I'll blame my hormones! I am a bit stubborn of late!!!;)

Hello mrs weezl...see C explained it so much geekier than I did...alas cant be geeky even with trying!
Now re the comments above....prunes def a good idea - would be nice with yog and honey in the morning?
Now which room is mine?!! Re the washing room do you mean the current kitchen? Would be very good to have washing room upstairs as you always end up lugging...an alternative could be a playroom - always good to have sink for washing wee paint pots etc. Certainy hope mr w isnt having poo accdents!! other than blocking them up!
As for the comment re being a weezl piggy you flippin aint...girls she didnt have pudding last night and it was chocolate! Fergus, being a super intelligent and telepathic baby, said he would very much have liked a bit of pud...told him not to worry (using supa dupa telepathic powers) I would send telepathic messages to you to eat some today & that seemed to appease him...did it work?!! Girls I fear that I may have had one pain killer too many so am now going to counter this by balancing it with a nice g&T! Weezl are we allowed to see Fergus or is he shy? guess he is naked after all....wouldnt want him to feel vulnerable and exposed before he was even born.
For those who may be interesed there is a gorgeous baby knitted cardi (unisex) pattern in this weeks prima...happy to scan/send to anyone if they would like it? I cant knit for toffee!!
ps just looked at the blog...its beautiful simplicity made me cry...wonderful to be so blessed....

I think the upstairs laundry room is a good idea. Most washing has to go down and upstairs at some point- unless you have drying facilities upstairs (one of those wooden racks that hang from the ceiling? Or an airer over the bath, or even....a tumble drier  ) yours will be to go outside to dry. Clean and wet is probably better than wet and dirty ;), so go for it. It'll make more space in your kitchen (think cupboard for plastic crockery so Fergus(ina) can help him/herself when you're encouraging independence :D ).

Are you going to do (geeky) research into washable nappies, or is it all a bit early for details?!

Ah Mrs M you and acetate mankey are thinking alike there! Its a sealed wooden floor (painted floorboards with silicone sealant in the gappy bits) but the washing machine's been used for nearly 6 years up there now without a misshap, so I reckon we're safe unless we tinker around with the plumbing!

Quote me on this when I post our latest disaster :rotfl:

Awwwwww lesley, my inner geek feels all warm and fuzzy that she was missed! ;)

ps- these are even batter bang for your nutritional buck, £2 for 1kg dried prunes, so that's only 4p for one of your 5 a day. And good for pregnancy constipation (ahem, I hear.....:o)
