  • Hi Everyone,

Im still here - up to page 80 now lol

Ive been looking for 2 individual pie dishes for ages - im looking for the old fadshioned type ones that are brown on the outside and white on the inside (im hoping this makes sense to someone)

I remember seeing them in a £ shop when i was at uni but that was 5 years ago and havent seen any since.

OH refuses to eat anything that is reheated so i quite often end up eating lasagne or shepherds pie for 3 days in a row to save waste.

Im hoping that if i can get half a dozen dishes i can batch cook and the freeze a couple of pies and then its all gravy.

Anyone got any ideas of where i can get some from?

don't know of any that are brown outside with white inside

I have some that are all brown (both round and oval versions), but I've had them a few years now and can't remember where they came from. Sure I saw some in either Tesco or Asda a few weeks back though :undecided

hi, i've seen that sort and size of dish in our local cheap shop for a few pounds.

i would think wilkies would do them to, plus i'm sure i saw some in tesco or asda recently too!

or have a look in the charity shops? we have one in town that has boxes of knives/forks etc, and piles of plates/dishes etc.

    good hunting!

ooo, another idea, lakeland do lots of serving dishes and the like.

  • I bought a car today and spent £4000, I spent that much because my much older car was costing me a fortune in repairs and servicing and this one has warranty, no MOT for 18 months, is more economical and environmentally friendly and shouldn't break down. So I can justify the expense for the long term saving but, I worked out

The money I spent on my car is over 10 years worth of meals for the Weezls

    Ouch :(

Flippin heck...how many meals Sian!! What make and model is the new car? v. exciting for you. I used to have a beat up old vw called verity (cos she was so spoiled with all the money ravished on her) who I was gutted when I sold her as we had been on many journeys, adventures and traumas togeather...divorce, braking down in the middle of a large round about, skipping Holland in the middle of the night to name a few!!!...
I agree that the weezl's should have a bugdet increase...suspect that convincing the ever so dedicated Mrs Weezl will take some convincing but I have a cunning plan! They are feeding me for my birthday tomorrow (when servers are down :( so I recon a bottle of wine (or two) may assist in the deliberations...will keep you posted!
Let us know how you get on with the chutney munch! What x/stitch are you doing? Can you post a piccie?
Re the orange - do any of those flovored water help at all? Just wondered if a watered down version would have less impact while enjoying the taste?

errr....ISOM...."skipping Holland in the middle of the night".......now you have to admit you musta realised that one would get us intrigued.

Should you wish to share it with us we promise not to tell anyone else - and you'd only be sharing it with a "select few" (errrr....welll...potentially over 2 million people that now subscribe to M.S.E. Martin's newsletter);) :D

I did a nanny job that turned into the job from hell. The bosses went to dinner and I packed...when they returned I left....v. exciting but thng God for credit cards as I had NO money! Stayed in what can be decribed as an attic with a single bed shoehorsed in and arrived there at 4am...ahh those were the days!

ISOM - The chutney is now in the pan happily simmering away. Takes a while to put together but the scent at the moment is well worth it. Will try a tiny bit when I jar it up!! Cooks perrogative and all that :)

I am working on several xstitch at the same time at the moment. Will take some pics when I get a chance and will post them as requested. Trust me tho they are nothing fantastic, all for other people that like certain things.

Anyway, will get some work done while the chutney is cooking.

    Morning all

What exciting lives some of us have lived (in search of me);) :rotfl:

Well I am starting to make head way with getting stuff sorted n stored for winter -which i think is here allready:eek: ......once i have the bulk of tins in etc -there should be no need for me to go out apart from a Saturday with hubby to the NAAFI -(once i have run down what is in the freezer i can then meal plan according to what they have whhoopsed or on offer ;) )

I worked out yesterday that (with the help of this thread and the GC)in the last 8 months I have had €3600 housekeeping (€450 a month) -but have only spent €948.89 :T - still not great by weezle standards -but heading in the right direction :A :rotfl: saving us €2615 ... which has paid for the car to get seen to when she was playing up, got hubbies (non cheap:eek: )golf club for his birthday and helped out when we went back to spend those 3 weeks with sis :j and we still have just under €1000 in my savings account -plus a bit a few hundred £s in my UK account:D ...It makes me realise just how much we used to "waste"..not any more :p -so thankyou to everyone who contributes :T .... now to see if we can pare it back further ;) .. Its great as hubby now has the "frugal" bug me thinks ..he came back from golf armed with 2 bottles of cravendale "whoopsed" to 50c each... thought they would always come in :T ....and now his favourite saying seems to be "we are being frugal" :rotfl: we have created a monster :p I think for him it is the realisation that if we don't waste money on say lots of takeaways etc.. then we have more money for doing things ...he now affords his golf membership and to pay for extra competitions etc out of his spends and still has a bit leftover for a beer or 12 ..
Anyway enough waffle -im back of to the x stitch ...i WILL get it finished in time :D

ooh whilst i remember I have posted this on the GC but thought i had better let you know that the banana + ginger parkin i made does NOT save for 2 months  luckily im a suspicous gal so froze all but 1 piece and that piece started to go mouldy the other day so the birds got it .. just wanted to let you know..can't have wasted food can we ;)

  • hello everyone

Wow this thread has really run on since I last looked!!

Two things - to the person who can't cut straight bread have you tried turning it on its side? I find that easier to get half decent slices and I can get it thinner too.

The dishes - i know exaclty what you mean, I think those colours are probably sadly a little out of fashion for the shops to stock them at the moment, but maybe try charity shops etc? I think if you look for white you will probably find the equivilant in the places suggested, or try a big tesco or asda?
